Lebron James’ Controversial Tweet Targeting Police Officer Sparks Calls For Sponsors To Drop Him

LeBron James has sparked outrage on social media after his now-deleted controversial tweet targeted a police officer who shot 16-year-old Ma’Khia Bryant in Columbus, Ohio.

The Los Angeles Lakers star had tweeted a photo that featured a Columbus police officer Nicholas Reardon, the officer who shot Bryant for holding a knife during a physical altercation.

LeBron then captioned the photo with the words: ‘YOU’RE NEXT #ACCOUNTABILITY,’ alongside an hourglass emoji.

The backlash was swift, with fans accusing the NBA champion of inciting violence against a police officer.

LeBron later pulled his controversial tweet down, saying that he deleted it because people are using it to spread more hate.

He tweeted:

In a later tweet, LeBron implied that he was going to gather all the facts before passing judgment on the case or the officer. He also said he was apologetic.

Since the controversial post, various conservative figures and fans have called on LeBron’s sponsors to drop him. Some even urged people to boycott his highly anticipated film, Space Jam 2.

Author Candace Owens also commented, writing:

Meanwhile, a pub in Ohio has also said that it will not show any more NBA games until James is thrown out of the league.

Taking to Facebook, Jay Linneman, the owner of Linnie’s Pub, said:

“If anyone wants to watch an NBA game, don’t come to Linnie’s Pub. We will not air them until LeBron James has been expelled from the NBA.”

LeBron, however, did not seem too put out by this ban. He sarcastically responded to the pub’s post:

“Aww, Damn! I was headed there to watch our game tonight and have a drink! Welp”

LeBron film Space Jam 2 is set to be released on July 16 in theatres and on HBO Max. If you are not going to watch the film in protest against the basketball legend, then you’ll be the one missing out if the first film is anything to go by.
