When we think of adopting kittens, the first places that come to our minds are usually animal shelters. Have you thought of hmmm - bookstores?
Well, maybe you should have.

At first glance, Ottis & Clementine's Books and Coffee is an ordinary bookstore just outside of Halifax in Nova Scotia, Canada. What's fascinating about it is the fact that except for buying books, people here can adopt a kitty!

Can you imagine that? Going in to get lost in the piles of books, and getting out with the cutest meowing ball of fur. It can't get any better than that.

Welcome to Otis & Clementine's Books and Coffee - Feel Free To Play With The Kittens And Even Adopt Them!

Kittens are the best mood-boosters we could ask for, and this bookstore that has a bunch of them sounds like a dream come true.

Ellen Helmke is the owner of this innovative bookstore. She says that there are always several little kittens around the bookstore, playing with their mama cat and secretly reading all cat-related books they can find.

The kittens aren't randomly taken in from the cold. They are provided by a rescue group with which Ellen collaborates.

Faith In Humanity - Restored

People that come here adore the idea of cats lurking on the bookshelves, and the bookstore gets amazing feedback on social media too.

The South Paw Conservation Nova Scotia Rescue Group stands behind these pawesome kitties that ask for attention when customers drink coffee or browse some books for their next reads.

Although the adoption process doesn't always run like butter, South Paw Conservation manages everything. The adoption costs 255 Canadian dollars (or 194 US dollars), and the fee covers even the medical expenses.

The new owner needs just to provide references before taking the mushy lump home.

Over 30 Cats Have Found Their New Homes So Far

Ellen came up with the adoption program last year when she realized that the bookstore offers plenty of space for kittens.

"People come here specifically to see the cats, and then some people just wander in to look at books and discover there are kittens. Either way, the response has been really great—I mean, who doesn't love kittens, right?"

The bookstore has a 100% adoption rate and over 30 cats have been adopted by now. She's sure that this number will increase gradually over time.

South Paw Conservation's Journey

A representative of South Paw Conservation revealed that Otis & Clementine's Books and Coffee is one of their many foster homes that provide an endowing environment for their kittens.

"South Paw Conservation rescued 30 puppies in 2019 from the Bahamas and Antigua and well over 50 kittens and cats locally. Really hoping the platform of attention we receive from Otis & Clementine's will help us to find loving homes, provide proper medical care, food and litter through donations and spay/neuter even more kitties within the province in 2020."

All of their kittens and cats are vaccinated, vet-checked, and have passed all their medical examinations to prove that they are healthy and ready to continue purring comfortably in their new homes.

These guys have an amazing foster network that helps them meet all those people who share a love for animals. All their work is possible through donations and adoption fees.

If the road leads you to Upper Tantallon, feel free to visit Otis & Clementine's and enjoy your stay between the books, coffee mugs, and the sound of purring kittens.
