Kelly Clarkson rose to stardom after her success on American Idol back in 2002. Nowadays, she is known for being one of the most authentic stars in Hollywood, with a tendency always to be honest and tell it like it is.
Kelly is not afraid to open up about the details regarding her relationship with Brandon Blackstock. The two had been married for six years when Kelly filed for divorce in June 2020.
The couple has two children, 7-year-old River Rose and 5-year-old Remington Alexander. They have also cared for two children from Brandon's previous marriage.
When the news about the divorce came out, fans were surprised. Many of them had not suspected such deep problems between the couple.
Back in 2017, Kelly shared:
"This isn't a downer to anybody I dated before him, but I'm just going to be real: I never felt like, [honestly], sexually attracted to anybody before him."
"And I'm not downing my exes. You know, everybody's different. But there was something about him. I honestly thought I was asexual -- I'd never been turned on like that in my whole life."
She continued being honest about her feelings:
"I was like, 'Oh that's that feeling… OK! That's what they were talking about in Waiting to Exhale. I just got it. I just didn't have a clue."
Based on these statements, it is understandable fans felt shocked. Kelly explained the reason for the breakup as "irreconcilable differences."
The divorce did not turn out to be a smooth affair. In September 2020, Kelly got sued by her former father-in-law's company. Brandon also asked for a ridiculous sum of $436,000 every month in spousal support.
A source told:
"Brandon's been equally unreasonable in his requests for child and spousal support, as well as attorney fees."
After two years of deliberations, the matter is finally settled, and Kelly can consider herself a free woman.
People reported that Brandon would receive a one-time payment of $1.3 million from Kelly. The monthly child support is set to $45,601 for the ex-couple two children.
As if that was not enough, Kelly has agreed to pay spousal support of a whopping $115,000 per month! This will go on until the last of January 2024.
According to People, Brandon will keep the farm cattle, livestock, stock dogs, and horses the ex-couple shared. He also gets multiple vehicles, including a Ford F-350 and a Ford F-250.
Kelly gets to keep the family pets, which hopefully will cheer her up. She also keeps multiple cars, including a Ford Bronco, a Ford F-250, a Porsche Cayenne, and a flight simulator.
Kelly has been getting stronger each day since the divorce was announced. A source told People about her mindset in August.
"She is doing great and facing forward. She's enjoying the fact that she has the kids for the vast majority of the time and is enjoying time spent with them."
The ex-couple will have joint custody of their two children. However, they will primarily live at Kelly's home in Los Angeles.
