We all know Keanu Reeves as Hollywood’s biggest low-key don. But did you know he has been secretly funding children’s hospitals?
Keanu Reeves has been in the filming industry for decades. He has played a title role in Ted’s and Bill’s adventures, and that’s when the public admiration started.
He has played iconic roles, especially in the Matrix series. His ability to connect with movie fans and society distinguishes him from celebrities.
The John Wick 2 star is not boastful of his large donations, like most popular stars in the filming industry. He’s known for his humility.
Keanu Reeves Gives For A Greater Course
Reeves has been making millions of dollars throughout his career. The most surprising thing, the opposite of what we would expect of a celebrity, has been using most of his wealth to help society.
According to a recent discovery, Reeves has been running a private foundation that helps children’s hospitals and cancer research. And he doesn’t brag about it.
In fact, he only mentioned it to the public during an interview with a woman’s magazine.
During the interview with Ladies Home Journal, he said:
“I don’t like to attach my name to it, I just let the foundation do what it does.”
Reeves Has Donated To Cancer Research For Decades
Reeves, now 54 years old, has been a movie actor since 1980. It was only in 2009 when he revealed his charity works during the Ladies Home Journal interview.
When asked by the interviewer how he does good, he said:
“I have a private foundation that’s been running for five or six years, and it helps aid a couple of children’s hospitals and cancer research.”
He had also said on Hello Magazine:
“Money doesn’t mean anything to me. I give lots away and live simply. We all know that good health is much more important.”
Keanu Reeves More Than A Movie Star
Reeves’s interest in helping cancer patients came after one of his family members was diagnosed with the disease.
In 1991, his sister, Kim Reeves, was diagnosed with leukemia. She struggled with the illness for over 10 years until she achieved remission.
Reeves is among the kindest faces in Hollywood. He managed the phones at the Stand Up To Cancer telethon in 2008.
He’s also involved in numerous charitable organizations focusing on health and healing. He offers donations to an organization called Spinal Cord Opportunity for Rehabilitation Endowment, which was started after a UCLA hockey player got injured in the spinal cord.
Reeves Gives From His Heart
Reeves has done other charitable activities. To mention a few, he bought his mom a house, donated motorcycles for Matrix’s stunt crew, and offered pay cuts to hire actors such as Al Pacino.
He had also gifted a set builder and his family $20,000 during a Christmas holiday. He’s known to take the subway, where his kindness continues by offering his seat to passengers.
