johnny depp said he wanted amber heard replaced in aquaman

Johnny Depp attempted to have his ex-wife Amber Heard axed from the DC Extended Universe movie Aquaman.

The actor reached out to his sister, producer Christi Dembrowski, in a text about Heard’s role in the blockbuster Warner Bros. film.

This detail surfaced in Justice Andrew Nicol’s 132-page ruling against Depp in his libel lawsuit against The Sun, which he lost last month.

Depp wrote to Dembrowski, who at the time had a deal with Warner Bros. and held sway at the studio:

“I want her replaced on the WB film.”

During the trial, Depp admitted he was referring to the 2018 film in the text, which also stars Jason Momoa. However, he denied orchestrating a petition to get her removed from the film.

The news comes after a petition, set up by Depp fans calling on Heard axed from the Aquaman sequel, received more than 1.7 million signatures.

The petition claims Heard ‘crusaded to ruin Depp in Hollywood,’ following their divorce while listing allegations of abuse from Heard to Depp.

Despite the petition, Heard is ‘excited’ to get to work on the upcoming film.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, she said such petitions have no bearing on casting decisions.

The 34-year-old actress said:

“I’m super excited about the amount of fan love and the amount of fan appreciation that Aquaman has acquired… It has garnered so much excitement for Aquaman and Mera that it means we’ll be coming back.”

“I’m so excited to film that.”

“Paid rumors and paid campaigns on social media don’t dictate [casting decisions] because they have no basis in reality.”

“Only the fans actually made Aquaman and Aquaman 2 happen. I’m excited to get started next year.”

While Depp didn’t succeed in replacing Heard on Aquaman, the loss of his libel suit against The Sun did cost him his high-profile gig.

Last month, Depp revealed that Warner Bros. asked him to resign from the upcoming film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 3. And he agreed to do so.

Taking to Instagram, he said:

“Firstly, I’d like to thank everyone who gifted me their support and loyalty.”

“Secondly, I wish to let you know that I have been asked to resign by Warner Bros. from my role as Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts. And I have respected and agreed to that request.”

“Finally, I wish to say this. The surreal judgment of the court in the UK will not change my fight to tell the truth. I confirm that I plan to appeal.”

“My resolve remains strong, and I intend to prove that the allegations against me are false.”

“My life and career will not be defined by this moment in time.”

Despite only filming one scene, Depp received millions for his work on the movie.
