To coincide with International Women's Day which was on the 8th of March, Insurethebox.com, the pay as you go insurer took 4.5 billion miles of driving data and analyzed it to see which of the two genders is the safer driver. And at no surprise to us ladies, women came out on top!

The data they collected between January 2017 and December 2018 showed that male drivers are 46% more inclined to speed as opposed to female drivers.

When analyzing the statistics, it also showed that young drivers aged between 17-25 committed the most offenses. While also showing from this age group young male drivers speed 55% more than young female drivers.

Looking further into young drivers, the data showed that boys aged 17 speed a whopping 76% more than young girls of the same age.

Naomi Little at Insurethebox.com said: "Speed is the single biggest contributor to driving risk - and the one thing that every driver has control over - yet it seems to be the biggest differentiator between young women and men driving safely."

"Insurethebox data shows that drivers who speed 20% of the time increase their risk of having an accident by 87%. This is partly because when driving at excessive speeds drivers have less time to react to any unexpected hazards."

"No matter who's driving, drivers need to give themselves the time to make every journey a safe one."

Further to these findings, the data also showed when it comes to driving at night, a time when it is considerably more dangerous to be on the road, women are the safer and more careful of the drivers.

The data showed that young men drive 28% more than female drivers between the times of 12 am - 5 am, which is the most dangerous time period when nearly a quarter of all accidents occur.

Because of all of the above factors, women pay less for their car insurance. It has nothing to do with their sex, but all because they are more careful and less prone to accidents than men.

So finally, this long-running battle of the sexes when it comes to driving finally has a definitive answer and can be put to bed. Women are in fact better drivers.
