"I'll Just Go To Heaven And Play Until You Get There..." 4-Year-Old Boy Promises His Mom Before His Death

Some people can see their deaths coming. And while some are fearful and overwhelmed, others remain calm and collected, bravely embracing the gloomy fate before them. What's tougher to imagine is that a kid would be so accepting of an imminent fatal end at only 4 years of age.

Nolan focused on his faith, not that he was living out his last moments on earth. He promised to wait for his mother in heaven.

Nolan Scully knew that he was losing his battle with cancer, a rare form of rhabdomyosarcoma, which affects the soft tissue.

He was only 3 years old when he got the devastating diagnosis, and his journey through the unforgiving illness was chronicled in a Facebook page his family set up.

No, he did not remain steadfast in the face of death because he felt hopeless. On the contrary, he harbored dreams of being a police officer. Like his dad Jonathan, who is a firefighter, his interest was to serve the community.

Thankfully, he was a police officer before the illness overcame him. The city's Police Commissioner visited him while in hospital and swore him in as an honorary police officer.

That's right: little Nolan was now Sergent Rollin' Nolan.

Needless to say, his situation was not an easy thing for his family to deal with. His mother Ruth needed every ounce of strength she could muster.

But in all this, Nolan's faith and courage stood out. He was fearless in the face of death. He went as far as informing her he would wait for her in heaven.

She later shared a conversation she had with the boy.

Mom: You're in a lot of pain aren't you baby?

Nolan: Yeah.

Mom: Poot, this Cancer stuff sucks. You don't have to fight anymore.

Nolan: (Happily) I DON'T?!! But I will for you mommy.

Mom: No Poot!! Is that what you have been doing? Fighting for mommy?

Nolan: Well DUH!!

Mom: Nolan Ray, what is mommy's job?

Nolan: To keep me SAFE! (Big grin)

Mom: Honey… I can't do that anymore here. The only way I can keep you safe is in heaven.

Nolan: Sooooo I'll just go to Heaven and play until you get there! You'll come, right?

Mom: Absolutely!! You can't get rid of Mommy that easy!!

Nolan: Thank you, Mommy!!! I'll go play with Hunter and Brylee and Henry!!

Nolan loved having his mother close. That way, he could look at her and hold her. She was even permitted to have a quick shower at the hospital, which is when Nolan finally shut his eyes and began slipping away.

When she got back, Nolan was swarmed by medical staff. He was in a coma and his lungs had collapsed.

Overcome with emotion, she jumped on the bed and put her hand on the side of his face. Nolan took a breath and opened his eyes before smiling and saying, 'I love you, mommy.'

He then passed away as she sang him 'You are My Sunshine' in his ear.

Later, she shared moments of him on the web. This included a photo of him lying on the bathroom mat outside the shower, something he loved.

In a photo of him saluting in his police uniform, she captioned, "My beautiful little policeman!"
