icarly revival confirmed as an ‘adult show’ with ‘sexual situations’, cast says

Oh, how time flies!

And the most interesting and ironic thing about it is that we’re not even aware of it until we see something that sends us back to memory lane.

Nine years after its original run on Nickelodeon came to an end, Miranda Cosgrove’s sitcom is making a return. Can you believe it?

It will run on Paramount+, a brand-new streaming platform from the studio.

And so it begins. We’re eager to find out more when it comes to some promising binge-worthy material.

We’re all ears!

This Is What You Came For

The original series orbited around the so-called Carly. And of course, what would be a heroine without her best friends? We had Sam (Jennette McCurdy) and Freddie (Nathan Kress) and brother Spencer Shay (Jerry Trainor).

While the executives confirmed that McCurdy isn’t returning, brace yourselves for some familiar faces among newbies. This time, with a more grown-up tone.

The Page Six Interview Revealed Everything We Wanted To Know

Recently, there was a new interview with Page Six, where Shay made jokes that the revival was like an Andrew Dice Clay concert.

But not everything will revolve around that line. The new show revival will be super-raw. And as we expected, there are going to be some sexual situations. Loads of them.

Shay added:

“And you know, I say damn it in the trailer, which had everyone in a tizzy, but you know we’re grown-ups.”

Parental Guidance

Without any doubts, this will be an adult show. So, no kids allowed at all.

Keep in mind that people behind the revival repeated multiple times how this show is not specifically for kids.

But that’s what makes it so exciting!

To just see where these characters from a kid’s show would be and where they are in their life now, 10 years later. All of this would be presented in a very realistic, non-glossy way.

Target Audience Is Important

Cosgrove said that the revival had been made for people who watched iCarly when they were younger.

And believe it or not, these young people will now be in their 20s.

She told Entertainment Weekly:

“We really tried to make this show, along with the showrunner Ali [Schouten], as much for the fans of the original as possible because it’s not really a kid show anymore.”

She continued explaining their intentions for the show:

“We’re getting to explore different things with [what] the characters go through that we would never have been able to do before, that’s a lot more like stuff that’s happened in our real lives and things that people in their 20s and 30s go through. It’s just been a fun reunion getting to see everybody, and I’m really excited for people to see it.”

The Inevitable Question About McCurdy

Many people were wondering why McCurdy won’t be among the cast of the iCarly revival.

As for McCurdy’s absence, it was all her call. And in the end, she simply decided not to return.

Cosgrove said:

“We touch a lot on the whole relationship with Sam and where Sam’s at in the pilot episode. And then we mention her a little bit throughout the season, so we’ll definitely explain that on the show.”

iCarly’s revival hits Paramount+ on Thursday, June 17. The show’s distribution plans in the UK haven’t been confirmed yet.

So, what are we waiting for? Let’s grab the popcorn, and see what they prepared for us!
