I Got Ghosted By A Guy I Dated For Three Years—WTF?

Whether it happens after a few weeks, months, or even a few years, being ghosted is a terrible experience. I never thought my boyfriend would do such a horrible thing to me after we'd been together for three years, but he did. This is what occurred:

1. He Blinded Me With His Great Personality

When we met and began our relationship, he was amazing. He was kind, loving, and chivalrous, and I fell for it. But then I realized it wasn't a façade; this guy was genuinely a great person, and the way he acted during the honeymoon phase seemed to be his true self.

2. The Facade Started To Crack

After we had been together for two and a half years, he began discussing our future. He wanted to marry me and have children. It appeared to be a positive sign, but around the same time, he began acting strange. He appeared distracted when we were together and acting a little odd. Something didn't feel right.

3. He Got A New Assistant

I didn't believe it was a significant issue when he informed me he had hired a new assistant at work. So what? But little did I know that she would contribute to the downfall of our relationship.

4. He Started Being Too Ambitious

Out of nowhere, the man's work ethic took a sharp turn. He began putting in extra hours at work, including weekends and late nights. It crossed my mind that this sudden burst of motivation might be due to his new assistant, as he frequently mentioned her when discussing his job.

5. I Got Worked Up

As he continued to work long hours, I became increasingly anxious. My mind was filled with doubts and insecurities, and I couldn't shake the feeling that he might be cheating. Whenever he was too busy to contact me, I worried that our relationship was starting to unravel.

6. I Was Just Being Paranoid, Right?

Strangely enough, the more I fretted about him being unfaithful, the more my boyfriend reassured me of his love. He professed his desire to marry me and insisted that I was the only one he wanted. Eventually, I came to realize that my own insecurities were the root of my anxieties.

7. Then He Dropped The Bomb

At one point, my boyfriend promised to call me but failed to follow through. I assumed he was simply preoccupied, so I waited for him to reach out. When he failed to respond to my subsequent call, however, I grew frustrated and impatient.

8. Uh, What Just Happened?

Initially, the thought of him being dishonest never crossed my mind. Instead, I became increasingly anxious about his well-being. What if he was lying helpless somewhere? Had he been involved in an accident? Panic started to set in.

9. There Was No Way To Find Him On Social Media

It was impossible to look him up on social media since he was strongly opposed to it. I found his detachment from social media peculiar, but when I began to worry about his whereabouts, his anti-social media stance became infuriating.

10. I Called His Best Friend

It was unlike him to go two entire days without any communication. Even when he was swamped at work, he would always make time for me. I was hesitant to reach out to his best friend, but I felt compelled to do so. His friend reassured me that he was probably okay and that I should stop worrying.

11. Red Flag Alert!

Frankly, the way his friend dismissed my concerns with a chuckle made me realize how foolish I was being. I sensed that his friend knew more than he was letting on about his location.

12. I Backed Off

I was clueless about the situation, so I decided to take a step back. My instincts were telling me to stop attempting to communicate with him. Despite my efforts, I didn't hear from him for days. I began to worry that something terrible might have happened to him, as I assumed that such news would have spread quickly. It seemed as though he was avoiding me, but perhaps he was still in contact with others.

13. The Other Woman Was On My Mind

After failing to locate him, I turned my attention to his assistant. He had mentioned her name so frequently that I decided to search for her on Facebook. Luckily, her profile was open to the public, so I was able to gain access to it.

14. There Was All The Proof I Needed

I was shocked to discover that my boyfriend was featured in a recent photo on her Facebook page, where they were hugging on a beach. To make matters worse, her relationship status indicated that she was "in a relationship." I was so angry that I immediately sent him a message telling him to leave me alone.

15. I'd Suspected Him Of Cheating, But…

I never would have thought that my boyfriend would have been capable of such deceit and cowardice. His decision to disappear from my life without any explanation left me feeling as though our three years together had been meaningless. I strongly believe that when you're in a long-term relationship, it's important to end things properly and with respect, not by simply vanishing into thin air. I was furious and made a vow to never let him affect me again.

16. He Resurfaced Two Years Later

This loser had the audacity to send me a friend request on Facebook two years later. I couldn't believe he had the nerve to try and re-enter my life. I blocked him immediately and thankfully, I never heard from him again.
