A television writer and producer, Caroline Dries, captured the horrific scene while she was a student.

Dries was studying at New York University at the time of the incident and took the video from her dorm room.

Caroline and her roommate woke up just before 9 AM to the sound of an explosion — the first plane hitting the Tower.

Though she didn’t know what was happening, she grabbed the camera and started filming the scene.

A few minutes later, the second plane hit the Tower. The women then left their dorm, while one of them stated:

“I don’t want to be on the 32nd floor of this building anymore.”

After graduating, Caroline became a successful television producer who worked on hit shows like Smallville and The Vampire Diaries.

Nearly 3,000 people died in the 9/11 attacks, which The New York Times called the ‘worst and most audacious terror attack in American history.’

And the nation is still healing and working to move past this tragedy, which left the world in shock.

So, what happened on 9/11, 19 years ago?

The morning of September 11, 2001, started off like any other. And the Twin Towers stood tall in the Financial District, as they had for more than 30 years.
