Harry Potter Star Sir Michael Gambon Has Passed Away

Gambon, a celebrated Irish-English actor, gained fame for portraying Dumbledore in six Harry Potter movies, succeeding Richard Harris in the iconic role.

He showcased his talent in movies like Fantastic Mr. Fox, The King's Speech, and Amazing Grace as well.

Unfortunately, it's been confirmed that Gambon has passed away.

The actor peacefully passed away in the hospital after battling pneumonia, as stated by his family.

A statement was released by publicist Clair Dobbs, representing the actor's wife, Lady Gambon, and son, Fergus Gambon, which states: "We are devastated to announce the loss of Sir Michael Gambon."

"Beloved husband and father, Michael died peacefully in hospital with his wife Anne and son Fergus at his bedside, following a bout of pneumonia. Michael was 82."

"We ask that you respect our privacy at this painful time and thank you for your messages of support and love."

Gambon began his acting journey more than 60 years ago with his first role in a stage production of Othello. This marked the beginning of numerous Shakespearean productions he would later star in.

He became one of the original members of the Royal National Theatre alongside Laurence Olivier.

His debut in the film adaptation of Othello (1965) marked his first movie role. He later appeared in films like Gosford Park, Sleepy Hollow, Layer Cake, and the Paddington movies.

Gambon, a highly acclaimed actor, earned several awards during his impressive six-decade career. He won four BAFTAs, a Tony, and two Emmys for his outstanding performances.

However, many will recognize him best for his role as Professor Albus Dumbledore, the headmaster of Hogwarts.

Following Richard Harris' passing, Gambon stepped into the iconic role in Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban and portrayed the character throughout the remaining franchise.

Numerous individuals have expressed their feelings about Gambon's passing on social media.

Jeremy Clarkson shared a post on X (previously referred to as Twitter): "I'm so sad to hear that Michael Gambon has died. He was hugely amusing, and such a tremendous guest, we even named a corner after him."

Another fan added: "I was very young when the first 2 Harry Potter films were released so more or less grew up with Michael Gambon as Dumbledore."
