In 2016, Wanda Dench texted her then 24-year-old grandson about the Thanksgiving dinner. In response, she received a message: "Who is this?" and everything changed.

Some people are meant to come into your life, regardless of your differences. Some will give you a lesson, and others will teach you about love. That happened to Dench once this messaging confusion ended.
Wanda was sure her grandson was playing her, but when the two exchanged selfies, it turned out that the recipient was a 17-year-old high schooler named Jamal Hinton.

Jamal then asked:
"Can I still get a plate tho?"

Dench answered that it is what grandmas do, feed everyone.
And thus, a beautiful story of friendship and love started.

Every Thanksgiving, Dench, and Jamal share a dinner, and this year was no exception. However, it is not all about the holidays. The two friends and people close to them helped each other through some hard times.
Jamal Shared Their Conversation On Twitter, And The Two Friends Went Viral

Jamal shared the first confusing messages and continued sharing yearly updates about this magnificent, inspiring friendship.

Wanda and her husband Lonnie welcomed Jamal, and even after the first encounter, he called them "grandparents."

Of course, Thanksgiving dinner became a tradition, but accidental friends saw more of each other during the year. They all eventually became great friends, with the addition of Mikaela, Jamal's beautiful girlfriend.

Then Covid came along, and things turned for the worse.
Losing Lonnie

Wanda and Lonnie caught Covid-19, but Lonnie did not survive the virus. Jamal felt the pain, but still, he wanted to ensure that "Grandma Wanda," as he calls her, got all the care she needed.

Thanksgiving in 2020 was the first one without her husband, so the whole day was dedicated to stories about the late Lonnie.

He was included in any way possible, and Wanda sure found comfort knowing that she could always count not only on her family but accidental friends as well.
Thanksgiving Dinner Tradition Continues

Talking to ABC, Dench said:
"Family is more than blood. It's the people you want to be with."

Jamal and Wanda enjoy good conversations and good food, and all the updates from Jamal should serve as an inspiration and reminder that kindness could give you a friend for a lifetime.

This year, Wanda was the one who confirmed the sixth family and friends reunion.

If this story doesn't warm your hearts, especially with the holiday season in full swing, then there is no hope for you!

We hope that Jalam and Wanda continue sharing love and understanding for many years to come!
