Surveillance footage had shown that Debanhi Escobar, an 18-year-old girl, went into Nueva Castilla Model in Mexico before she was found dead two weeks later.
She went into the hotel on 9th April in the morning hours.
Escobar had been at a party with two of her friends the day before. A photo of her was taken on April 9 by her driver, Juan David Cuéllar, and that was the last time anyone saw her alive.
Before the girl's body was finally found, authorities had been looking for Escobar for two weeks. The search had even been extended to include neighboring states.
Her body was finally found inside a water tank. The tank was no longer in use.
However, a worker at the motel had complained about a bad smell coming from the cistern. Soon, Escobar's body was discovered.
The following day, Prosecutor Gustavo Guerrero talked to the media and said Escobar had died due to a skull contusion. Nevertheless, he could not explain how her body ended up in the water tank.
Mario Escobar, her heartbroken father, had said goodbye to her daughter on Saturday during her burial. According to him, she had been beaten and strangled.
Mario also said that they had been "destroyed inside" by the death since they were very hopeful that they would find her alive. Unfortunately, that was not the case.
According to the governor of Nuevo Leon, Samuel Garcia, the prosecutor and his team had shown them evidence, particularly videos, that showed the girl getting into the motel on her own.
It was also apparent from the videos that she stayed in the motel for a couple of minutes.
At the moment, the authorities are searching for Escobar's killer. The governor made an effort to meet with her parents to update them about the investigation.
Her father said that the whole experience was hard for him and his wife, although they were calm and able to find her body and bury her.
They were also glad they had gotten a chance to say goodbye to her and had a place to put a flower, unlike many other people who never got that chance.
Mario also said that they would still help people and share their stories.
According to the media, there emerged a video in which Escobar's driver, Juan David Cuéllar, allegedly tried to put his hands over her breasts. Her father concluded that she was probably unable to put up with the harassment and got out of the car.
Unfortunately, the prosecutor did not feel there was anything worth pursuing concerning the alleged harassment. Nevertheless, Mario thought the driver had set everything in motion with his actions.
After the police questioned Juan, they concluded that he had no role in Escobar's death.
