Gabby Petito: Body Found Confirmed To Be That Of Missing Youtuber

The remains found in Teton County, Wyoming, have undergone a post-mortem examination; and yes, they belong to Gabby Petito, the missing 22-year-old YouTuber.

On Sunday, September 19, these human remains were found in a remote part of Bridger-Teton National Forest. The discovery was made as authorities were looking for Petito.

The last time the YouTuber was seen, she was in Salt Lake City, Utah. That was on August 24.

Soon after the remains were found, an FBI spokesperson explained that they were consistent with Petito's appearance. The young woman was 5 feet 5 inches tall, and she weighed 110 pounds.

Richard Stafford, Petito's family lawyer, confirmed the FBI report that the remains belonged to Gabby through the media. He also explained that another statement would be made once Gabby made it home.

Through their Denver office, the FBI issued a statement that explained that the woman had died by homicide. However, it is still not very clear how this happened.

According to the statement, the cause of death will be confirmed once the final autopsy reports are carried out.

Initially, Charles Jobes, a senior resident FBI agent in Wyoming, had explained that they could still not confirm if the body was Gabby's without conducting a "full forensic identification."

However, the family was still informed that the remains had been found. The autopsy was done in North Port, Florida, and it finally confirmed that the remains belonged to Petito.

Petito left New York, her home state, with her fiance Laundrie in early July. They planned to explore America's national parks.

On Instagram, she shared many images showing all the places they were visiting.

However, Laundrie arrived home to North Port alone on September 1. He was also not willing to offer any information to the authorities about where Petito might be.

When he came home, he brought the van they had used with him, and the police found it at the home he shared with his parents.

Laundrie Is Now A Person Of Interest

At the moment, Laundrie is a person of interest. He disappeared after informing his family that he would be hiking alone in the Carlton Reserve, a remote 24,000-acre area close to North Port.

However, when the police searched the area, they gave up on September 20 after exhausting "all avenues."

As the authorities were looking for Laundrie, they also searched his home. They took away stuff from the home and towed away a silver Ford Mustang as well.

A lawyer representing Laundrie's family explained that Laundrie's location was "unknown." In return, the Petito family lawyer explained that he was not missing but "hiding."

Authorities Are Still Seeking Information About The Case

The FBI has asked members of the public to keep their distance from law enforcement officers, vehicles, and equipment. Authorities also asked everyone to respect Petito's family privacy and ensure they safeguard the integrity of the law enforcement officers' work.

Currently, the police are looking for information from those who used the Spread Creek Dispersed Camping Area between the 27th and 30th of August. The authorities also noted that response to their request for information from the public has so far been 'remarkable.'
