Many people say that no matter what, the customer is always right.
This might be true, but we have to be aware of the fact how we live in a world where sometimes, there is no will for compromises. Or for hearing the opinion of the other side.
People love talking, but some of them experience difficulties when it comes to the listening part.
Especially those who think that they are always right, and there is no other truth than theirs.
This video shows the moment when a delivery driver attempted to confront a customer after she realized she'd been given an $8 (£6) tip:
The whole footage was filmed on the doorbell camera while the driver was explaining how she'd spent 40 minutes getting to the New York address.
As the woman got closer to the house, the customer thanked her and asked her to leave the food on the doorstep. But the woman didn't give up. She replied, saying that she needed to speak to him.
The confused client asked what she meant, to which she replied:
"I don't think you realize where this has come from so I need to speak to you."
It turns out the woman, whose name was left unknown, was disgruntled with the tip that she received. This was the reason why she wanted to speak to the man face-to-face.
An Attempt For Solving The Problem
The customer shared with her a well-known fact. It takes 15-20 minutes to drive from the restaurant he ordered from, in Commack, to the delivery address, in Smithtown.
But the woman had an answer for everything. She quickly responded:
"It's not. You need to try and drive it. I just drove it, it's 40 minutes. It's 12 and a half miles. So I don't think you realize how far it is."
Then, the former DoorDash employee suggested that he should adjust his tip to make it right. The man had given her a tip of $8.
At this point, the man started laughing. Additionally, he asked:
"What the hell are you looking for? I gave an $8 tip."
After that, she told him she was just going to take the food back. Moreover, she grabbed the bag and walked back down the footpath in front of his house.
After it got uploaded to YouTube, the video ended up making its way to Reddit, where it's gone viral. Meanwhile, it left all viewers confused.
One person left a comment:
"Wasn't expecting to hear the name of the town I live in mentioned in this. Commack is literally the next town over from Smithtown and is in no way, shape, or form a 40-minute drive even in the worst of traffic. Maybe if you're traveling by rickshaw, but certainly not by car. It's 15 minutes TOPS."
Another viewer added:
"Drivers know the mileage, pay, order, delivery address… everything before delivery. If you accept it, tip or not, it's on you."
In a statement given to the Mirror, a DoorDash spokesperson claimed:
"We take the safety of our community extremely seriously, and such inappropriate behavior is never tolerated on the DoorDash platform.
"Any behavior that violates this zero-tolerance policy is grounds for deactivation, and the Dasher involved has been removed from our platform. We have been in touch with the customer to offer support and sincerely regret that this incident fell short of the experience we strive to provide every day."
Where did all the kindness go?
Phantogram's song said it all: it's a cruel, cruel world.
