From Overthinking to Finding Inner Peace in 5 Simple Steps

Scarecrow from The Wizard of Oz was wrong. Having a brain is overrated; ask anyone who’s dealing with overthinking. Luckily, there are simple ways to find inner peace. And it all comes down to retraining your mind.

Overthinking everything, all the time is exhausting. The more you try to stop the mind from spinning, the more it turns. It affects your sleep, relationships, health.

You need inner peace, freedom to just be, and power to know that you can quiet the mind. Surely by now, you’re thinking: “As if I haven’t tried everything!” Well, try again! And try our suggestions, which should become part of your everyday life.

Meditate

The most powerful way known to man to get inner peace is to let the meditation do its job. Let those thoughts run around while you’re observing them without labeling them.

Meditate every day for at least 20 minutes. Additionally, if you feel particularly stressed out, put on your favorite meditation, and let yourself be.

Go outside

Ideally, you’d go to nature, to enjoy smells and views. Realistically, the best you can do is leave your office or your room and take a walk around the city.

Don’t force yourself to stop thinking. Instead, be curious about the architecture, people around you, smell of the air. It’s like a meditation, so let those thoughts get out at their own pace.

Love yourself

Yes, you’re an overthinker, and by now, you’re programed not be your biggest fan. Overthinking is your second nature, and by hating yourself, you’re just feeding the beast.

Don’t beat up yourself for not being able to find inner peace right now. It’s a practice, so be gentle to yourself. Love your brain, no matter how hard it may seem at the moment.

Be quiet

Overthinkers like to overtalk their thoughts. Research shows that talking about everything you’re overthinking releases cortisol, also known as the stress hormone. It leads to further chaos in your head.

There’s a power in words: the more you repeat something, the stronger it becomes. That’s why you should only share your thoughts for a reason like when you’re with a therapist or anxiety gets the best of you.

Breathe

Deep breathe in, exhale slowly. Take some deep breaths and break down what you’re thinking about. It’ll help center you. You can write down your thoughts, seeing them may take away their power.

Recognize that you have a problem and deal with it.  

The given techniques are simple, but it’s up to you to repeat, adopt them as a healthy habit. Over time, the thoughts are going to be less loud, and you’ll start experiencing inner peace.
