The couple met in 1971, but it was lust, not love at first sight. They dated for two years, but the young Prince of Wales was quite the ladies' man. Camilla fell in love and married Andrew Parker Bowles, leaving Charles wondering.

At the time, Charles wrote to Lord Mountbatten, his mentor and a relative:

I suppose the feeling of emptiness will pass eventually.

He went on to date some of the world's most beautiful women, and in 1977 he met then 16-year-old Diana Spencer. He was going out with her sister at the time, but clearly, that didn't work out.

Lady Diana, Prince Charles, and his women

Lady Diana married Prince Charles in 1981. The public loved the future Queen of the United Kingdom. She was young, fresh, shy, and the biggest asset to the British crown.

But in her BBC interview, several years later, the late Lady Di said:

There were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded.

She was talking about Camilla Parker Bowles and the humiliation she suffered from Prince Charles and his mistresses. Though Camilla wasn't the only one, she was the one that Charles wanted more than anyone else. Including his beautiful wife, mother of his two sons.

Despite what one might think of Charles or his now-wife, let's understand that things were quite different between the aristocrats. They still are, but Lady Diana's tragedy brought the royals back to Earth.

Prince Charles had to marry a virgin from a certain family. He only took young Diana on six dates, and then he proposed. Yes, she loved him, but she was a teenager, and he was in his early 30s.

And, imagine saying no to the future king. That's not how things work. So, while Shy Di struggled to understand her new role, her husband knew he made the biggest mistake of his life. But that's the price you have to pay to be the King.

The story of Diana affects lives to this day. It allowed her sons to marry commoners and to have levels of privacy she didn't. It also made her boys loved by pretty much everyone inside and outside of the kingdom.

The Princess of Hearts started adulthood thinking her life would be a fairytale. Yet, it soon turned into a nightmare, and just when everyone thought she would finally have the life she deserved, she was killed in a car accident.

Prince Charles and Camilla Parker had to wait. Officially, Prince William and Prince Harry met her in 1998. They became official once again in 1999 when they came together at Camilla's sister's 50th birthday party.

Duchess Camilla - giving hope to "the other woman" worldwide!

The two married in a low-key ceremony in 2005, and they've been together ever since. Camilla, the Duchess, never accepted to be Princess Of Wales because that title belonged to Lady Di. The next Princess of Wales will be Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge.

After 35 years and after all the pain they both felt and caused, it's time to let them be. The Duchess of Cornwall experienced abuse from Diana's fans, public humiliation, and bullying, but she went through it, all for Prince Charles.

Was it worth it? Only time will tell.
