A Brazilian model who volunteered for Ukrainian Army as a sniper just a few weeks ago died in a Russian missile strike.

Thalita do Valle, a 39-year-old former model, died on June 30 when a Russian missile struck her bunker in Kharkiv. According to reports, Thalita do Valle had only been in Ukraine for three weeks.

The volunteer soldier from Sao Paulo, Brazil, died alongside former Brazilian army fighter Douglas Burigo, who was on his way to the bunker to rescue her.

Thalita, who also attended law school, had posted videos of her time in Ukraine on her YouTube channel. Her channel also documents her previous experience as a soldier in Iraq.

She had also participated in animal rescues with NGOs and worked as a model and actress when she was younger.

She was also working with a writer to turn her experience in Ukraine into a book.

While in Iraq, Thalita received training as a sniper with the Peshmergas in the independent Kurdistan region.

Following her tragic death, Thalita's brother Theo Rodrigo Viera described and hailed her as a hero who dedicated her life to helping others in desperate need.

He explained:

"Thalita has always been involved in humanitarian missions with the foreign legion of some country or here in Brazil."

"She was always moved by the feeling of saving animals and humans. My sister was always peaceful, a genuine progressive.

"Guns are part of a context, war, but she saved lives, she saved animals."

Her brother also explained that Thalita had only been in Ukraine for three weeks, where she was working both as a rescuer and sharpshooter.

Thalita was also reportedly responsible for providing cover from advancing Russian forces.

Her brother also revealed that his sister had survived an earlier bombing in Kyiv, where she told relatives that she could not talk much as Russian drones were monitoring cellphones.

The last time Thalita spoke with her family was just days before she was killed.
