Travis can be seen getting out of the truck and scuffling with Arbery. He then hit Arbery with a shotgun blast, stagging a few feet before falling to the ground. After the footage circulated on social media, many protesters marched through the neighborhood where Arbery was killed. The Arbery family’s lawyer, S. Lee Merritt, called the shooting a “modern-day lynching” and said the family is demanding justice. Arbery’s mother, Wanda Cooper-Jones, told Good Morning America that she’s still trying to make sense of the senseless tragedy. She said: “I don’t think I’ll ever be in a mental state where I can actually watch the video. I had others that watched it that shared what they saw, and that just was enough.” The McMichaels told police they confronted Arbery because they thought he was a burglar who had been frequenting the neighborhood. ‘Lynched Before Our Eyes’ The victim’s father, Marcus Arbery, told PBS Newshour that his son exercised in the area daily. Marcus said: “I don’t know why they racially profile him and done him like that because all he did is work out and ran and just took care of his body because he had dreams now.”“I want to see these people go to jail, go to prison, whatever. They need the harshest crime they can get… I’m telling you. That’s just hate and murder. I want to see justice for him.” Critics contend there was no initial arrest because the man with the shotgun is the son of a former police officer from the same department initially investigating the case.
