A young woman from Mississippi was accused of using her period blood instead of ketchup on a customer's burger. She also added some spit, just to mix things up.
The bloody burger is a work of Sky Juliett Samuel, 18. At the time of the incident, she was employed at Jack's Family Restaurant. A co-worker saw that she smeared her blood and spat before serving the cheeseburger.
The co-worker told about this indiscretion to their mother, and she posted about it on her Facebook. Since it raised many eyebrows, an investigation began.
You probably heard horror stories about spitting in fast-food restaurants, but period blood takes things to a whole new level. It's not just gross or illegal - it is disturbing.
Sky decided to finally hand herself in when the victim notified the Columbus Police Department. After the initial arrest, she posted bail for $5,000 and was released from Lowndes County Adult Detention Center.
Though the victim's identity remains hidden, it's a woman from Tupelo, Mississippi. No other information was provided.
Sky Samuel pleaded guilty to "knowingly selling unwholesome bread or drink." The crime is a felony punishable by one to five years in prison, but luckily for Samuel, she got one year of jail time.
Sky, a mom of a young daughter, previously worked for Krispy Kreme donuts. When she's not wiping blood and saliva on customers' food, she enjoys sports and posting cryptic messages on Facebook.
It's unclear why the incident happened in the first place.
Jack's Family Restaurants stated that the company "fully supports the police department's efforts to determine if there was any wrongdoing in this case."
The company added that it was assisting with the investigation and had also started an independent investigation.
Columbus Mayor Robert Smith said:
"I'm glad a case has been opened on this incident to see exactly what happened,"
"There are laws related to tampering with food, and this is a serious issue."
The Mississippi State Department of Health was also investigating the incident.
