Ex-porn star Mia Khalifa claims that working in the adult entertainment industry was the "worst time" of her life.

In 2015, at 21, Mia Khalifa spent three months working as an adult actress. During the time, the Lebanon-born brunette went viral for a video showing her wearing a hijab. The attention led to receiving death threats from ISIS.

Speaking about that particular experience, Mia said she "didn't realize she could say no."

Among the threats, Mia received messages showing her beheaded by an ISIS executioner and warning her she was going to Hell.

Her Instagram got hacked, and Mia was in fear for her life. Her apartment address became public, and the young woman was "disassociating," often "pretending things like that didn't happen."

During the podcast, Call Her Daddy, the host, Alex, told Mia:

"Everyone that is listening, you may or may not know about that event, and we're not here to talk about the event, but after this porn scene goes viral, who was that girl the minute that goes viral?"

Mia, who is now an OnlyFans star, replied:

"To have the most isolating feeling, you're alone, you have people sending you death threats and your family at the time not supporting you, how did you get here today? A lot of people wouldn't have been able to get through that."

Mia continued:

"I don't know where I was because that is around the time I started disassociating and just compartmentalizing and pretending like things never happened to the point where I didn't talk about porn for the first like three years after, I just went quiet and never spoke about it."

"Every time I did an interview that was the one thing they were not allowed to ask me about, I refused to acknowledge that I did it, and it wasn't until therapy that I realized how detrimental that is."

She was aware she could not ignore her experiences forever:

"I can't just scooch things under the rug and hope that they go away. That's not how that works, you have to face them head-on and talk about them."

"It's that feeling of 'I don't want to talk about it because I don't want to bring attention to it,' but I need to talk about it because I need to explain myself because everyone is misinterpreting the whole thing. It's that catch-22 of not wanting to bring it up but needing to bring it up because it's the elephant in the room everywhere you go."

Despite her success, Mia barely saw any money from the industry. Describing her apartment at the time, she stated, "it was disgusting, it was so bad, it was cockroach infested, it was the worst time of my entire life."

At the beginning of 2021, Mia donated $160,000 from her OnlyFans earnings to charity.

In July 2021, she announced on Instagram she was divorcing Robert Sandberg after a year of couples therapy.

Mia has explained that her brief porn career was an "impulsive act of rebellion." It turned out to be the most regretful decision of her life.

She opened up about her beginnings in the industry, saying that she was approached when she felt most vulnerable.

Despite only filming a dozen videos and earning 12.000 dollars, Mia cannot shake off the title "porn star."

Mia warned young women:

"Porn corporations prey on callow young women and trap them legally into contracts when they're vulnerable."

She did not think she would become famous, but the hijab video did its part. Despite not working for nearly a decade, she is still among the most searched names in the adult industry.

Similarly, Lana Rhoades recently opened up about her experiences from her time in the porn industry, which left her traumatized.
