The internet is officially going nuts over a friendship-goal picture of “heartthrob” Mae Martin and “true stud” Elliot Page.
On 23 July, Page posted a snap of himself and the Feel Good co-creator hanging out and praising Martin.
Since then, the Instagram post has racked up over 1m likes, with thousands of comments supporting the two stars.
They Have A Lot In Common
They’re both 34-year-old Canadian entertainers, and they both came out last year.
Page came out as transgender in December 2020, while Martin came out as bisexual and non-binary in April.
Martin is a stand-up comedian and writer born in Toronto. He has previously written for the CBC’s Baroness von Sketch Show and Netflix’s Dope comedy special.
Feel Good. Thelatest Netflix show has received a BAFTA Award nomination and two Canadian Comedy Awards.
Page, born in Halifax, presently starring in Netflix’s Umbrella Academy, is recognized for his Academy Award-nominated acting.
He rose to fame after starring in the hit movie Juno in 2007, for which he was nominated to win an Academy Award.
Page also directed the film There’s Something in the Water, appeared in two X-Men movies, and co-hosted the docuseries Gaycation.
Fans Were Quick To Admire The Instagram Picture
One person wrote:
“Elliot Page and Mae Martin being friends is actually so personal to me.”
“Elliot Page and Mae Martin meeting up is like… the wildest and gayest combo I can think of… I am a little in love with both of them.”
And a third wrote:
“To think that somewhere right now Mae Martin and Elliot Page are hanging out genuinely kills me that I can’t just be in the room.”
While another tweeted:
“Elliot page and Mae Martin taking [a photo] together was all I needed to see tonight thank you universe.”
Someone else wrote:
“I don’t know if I’ll be able to sleep knowing that Elliot Page and Mae Martin were together, breathing the same air and I wasn’t there either.”
This Is Not The First Time The Two Meet Up
The two entertainers have actually known each other for over a decade.
Previously, Martin told the New York Times how they “weirdly met” Page “in a bar when we were 19.”
“I was like a weird sort-of homeless stoner – I had an apartment, but there were no locks on the door… [and] Elliot was filming X-Men [The Last Stand] at the time, I think, and we had a mutual friend.”
Years later, they reconnected and have remained friends ever since. Before coming out publicly, Page confided in Martin, which Martin described as “very inspiring, and reassuring.”
It helped Martin understand their own gender identity, which came “in the midst of it all” when they were “feeling quite stressed about it.”
“It’s nice to have someone you can bounce off of who’s going through something similar.”
Currently, Page is working on the coming season of The Umbrella Academy. According to Martin, a third season would “undo all this personal progress that the characters have achieved,” and so there won’t be one.
