Few tragedies rival seeing a young life end so pointlessly, as was the case with 13-year-old Cambria Soto, who lost her life as a result of careless drunk driving. A pickup truck came crashing into her bedroom at their home in Porterville, California.

As a result of the accident, she suffered fatal injuries.

Alexis Mendoza had been drinking, and yet he decided to get behind the wheel of his truck. That is what makes this death so upsetting because it was so avoidable.

After the accident, the girl was taken to Fresno Community Regional Medical Center for treatment. Unfortunately, her injuries were too severe and she lost the fight for her life.

Today, the family is still trying to pick up the pieces after the girl died so abruptly in the horrifying accident.

As for Alexis, he faces several charges for incident. He is also facing charges of driving under the influence.

How Did This Happen?

Reports claimed that the drunk 19-year-old was trying to make a turn on Tomah Avenue. However, he was too drunk and too fast to pull it off.

Ultimately, he was flying over the curb, and moments later, he crashed into the home. Cambria was sleeping in her bedroom where she was hit as she slept.

One of the first people to arrive at the scene of the accident was Antonio Ramirez, a neighbor. When he quickly entered the house, he found Cambria trapped under the back wheels of the truck.

Antonio remembers Cambria as the 'happiest little girl' he knew. He also admitted that the sight of her pinned under the wheels of that truck is not something he will easily forget.

Alexis is currently under arrest, and he faces charges of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.

On GoFundMe, a page has been set up to help the family as they deal with this tragedy. Here is what's written on the page:

"It is with heavy hearts to share that our dear Cambria was unexpectedly taken from us. Cambria was loved by so many had a huge heart and a beautiful smile that would light up any room. We have started a fund to help out her loved ones she left behind. We want to help alleviate some of the hardship for the family."

It is so unfair that such a happy and loved young girl had to lose her precious life in such a grisly manner. Hopefully, Alexis understands how much pain his reckless drunk driving has caused to all who knew Cambria.
