People sometimes have to face mortality before they start to evaluate their life. A lot of emotions will run through their minds and regret could be at the forefront of their minds.
Deathbeds are part of a nurse’s normal work life. They see the emotions that each person is struggling with. They see the regret, anger, and fear that is experienced, and the best advice that they can give you today is: Don’t wait!

I should have been true to myself
We are molded into what society wants us to be. Into a socially accepted person, but we tend to lose who we actually are. When last did you do something because you like to do it, not because you have to or because it is what society expects of you?
Don’t wait until your deathbed to realize that you are not true to yourself. Start today by being the best you that you can be.
I should have spent less time working
We live in a society where you need to work to support your lifestyle. A normal day consists of getting up, going to work, and rushing back home. Perhaps a quick gym session, and then it is off to bed. Where is the time that you spend on yourself, on your kids, or your family? Where is the time that you spend doing what you like?
Don’t wait, you have the ability to start spending more time doing what you like and less time working.
I should have faced my fears
Fear could cripple you into not doing what you want to do. You could be afraid to work a little less so that you can spend more time with your family.
It doesn’t matter what fears you have, all that matters is how you are facing your fears. Do you have the courage to stand up and face your fears or will this be a regret that you carry to your deathbed?
I shouldn’t have neglected my friendships
I heard the saying that if someone doesn’t reach out to you, you shouldn’t reach out to them. You should remove them from your life. Remember that friendship is a two-way stream and both parties need to invest in friendship.
Don’t wait until it is too late to pay attention to your friends. Pick up the phone and give them a call or send them a message. Life is busy and sometimes hectic, but it is worth looking after your friendships.
I should have been happier
This seems to be such a hard concept; people do not allow themselves to be happy. You prefer to be put into a social box or work in a job that you do not like rather than work towards happiness.
Don’t wait until your deathbed to realize that it is up to you to be happy. The world shouldn’t determine your happiness; you should actively work towards a happier version of yourself.
