Yes, 2020 is one of the worst years ever, but things are looking up for Dexter fans. Michael C. Hall is set to return as the title character alongside original showrunner Clyde Phillips.
Showtime ordered 10 episodes, with production set to begin in 2021 for a fall première. And the plot? Well, at least for now, it’s in the same place as Dexter’s victims: under wraps!
Showtime praises Dexter
“Dexter is such a special series, both for its millions of fans and Showtime, as this breakthrough show helped put our network on the map many years ago,” said Gary Levine, co-president of entertainment for Showtime.
“We would only revisit this unique character if we could find a creative take that was truly worthy of the brilliant, original series. Well, I am happy to report that Clyde Phillips and Michael C. Hall have found it, and we can’t wait to shoot it and show it to the world!”
And we couldn’t have said it better: our favorite killer of killers didn’t end on a high note, which is why we’re happy to see Dexter back!
The story follows the final season
Michael C. Hall played the title character for eight seasons, but with that faking his death business, fans were disappointed. Both we, as well as Hall, deserved better.
It is safe to say that the show was at its prime while Phillips was in charge. He stayed for the first four seasons, which were the best. Now, we will get to see that same energy!
The killer drama promises 10 revenge killings, so it seems like Dexter’s secret life didn’t work out. The series ended in 2013, and it will be interesting to see whether there will be a time jump and who else will reappear.
For the time being, Phillips and Hall are confirmed for Dexter limited series with John Goldwyn, Sara Colleton, Bill Carraro, and Scott Reynolds.
Michael C. Hall’s impressive resume
While Dexter returning is exciting and promising, Michael C. Hall was and still is one of the most versatile actors of his generation.
Hall was nominated for Best Leading Actor five times in a row and won a Golden Globe in 2010 for his generous serial killer role. John Lithgow picked up an Emmy and a Golden Globe for his guest-starring role in the show’s fourth season. The series also won a Peabody Award in 2008.
Dexter actor chops his skills all the time, on stage, which makes his presence on a screen such a unique experience.
As for the magnificent show creator, Phillips previously made the series Suddenly Susan, Get Real, and Parker Lewis Can’t Lose. He was also a writer and producer on the hit Showtime series Nurse Jackie. He is currently under an exclusive deal with Showtime and CBS.
Now, isn’t this the best Halloween present ever or what? Let the killings begin. Soon!
