Dave Bautista is famous for playing the role of Drax the Destroyer in Guardians of the Galaxy. The third movie in the series, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, should mark the end of his cinematic journey as Drax.
At this point, he feels that his character should have come "full circle."
He is looking forward to the film, although the journey there has not been easy. James Gunn, the film director, and the rest of the crew are like a family to him.
To him, the third installment of the film will be similar to where his journey began about a decade ago, which means he will have come full circle. Bautista has been in Guardians since 2013, and when the next film comes out, it will be 2023.
He first strongly hinted that he would be playing his final role as Drax in May 2021 when he said, "that's probably going to be the end of Drax." The actor also clarified that although he was walking away from the part, he wasn't saying other actors couldn't take up the role:
"Drax isn't going anywhere. He just won't be played by this dude!"
He cited his age as the reason he was walking away from the role. Bautista noted he would be 54 when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 comes out. He is expecting "everything to start sagging" any time now.
According to Gunn, Bautista is irreplaceable.
Bautista got famous as a wrestler on WWE in 2000. He became a significant character in the show in 2002, where he used the name, Batista.
Soon, he was one of the biggest stars in the show.
His acting career began in 2006 after he was in an episode of Smallville. Bautista also appeared in Relative Strangers.
It was not until the 2010s that he began to get more serious acting roles. For instance, he was in Wrong Side of Town, The Man with the Iron Fists, Scorpion King 3: Battle for Redemption, and House of the Rising Sun.
Nevertheless, his role in Guardians of the Galaxy by Marvel was his breakout role. In the film, Bautista plays the role of Drax, who is a warrior determined to take revenge against Ronan, the Accuser, for killing his family at Thanos' direction.
Bautista played the same role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in 2018 and Avengers: Infinity War in 2018. In 2019, he reprised his role in Avengers: Endgame.
His popularity in Hollywood as an actor grew with these roles, which helped him get roles in films like Spectre, Dune, and Blade Runner 2049.
Despite saying that he will be playing his final role as Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, he has still found time to play a role in Thor: Love and Thunder and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special.
