Parents often go to great lengths to rectify past decisions for their children's sake. For instance, an Australian dad chose to endure the painful process of tattoo removal for his daughter.
Notable Changes
Ethan 'ModBoy' Bramble, from Australia's Central Coast, has invested nearly $40,000 USD on tattoos covering his entire body, including his face. His journey into body modification began at the age of 11 with earlobe stretching, and by 22, he had transformed his body into a living canvas.
More than 40 Modifications
By age 22, Ethan had undergone over 40 modifications, including eyeball tattoos, a pierced nose, and even the removal of his belly button. At 17, he split his tongue in what he describes as the most intense procedure, causing him extreme pain and requiring him to sleep sitting up for days to avoid choking on his saliva. He also modified his earlier earlobe stretching by getting parts of his ears surgically removed.
Unique, if not Bizarre
The following year, Ethan gained notoriety on social media by openly defying police while a warrant was out for his arrest. The specifics of the warrant remain unclear, as does the outcome of his charges. Meanwhile, he continued to push the boundaries of body art, notably by having a silicone spider surgically implanted into his hand. "I have always enjoyed how it looks. Growing up I was interested in Aztec designs like nose poles and then as I got older I realized, wow, you can get more intense stuff done …" He shared. "You can get all kinds of weird and wacky stuff done."
Decision for Removal
Ethan explains that he doesn't necessarily regret his tattoos but wants "to be perceived differently." He worries about the "judgment" he'll get while doing things with his daughter like taking her to school. "The face is a big thing that can lead to so many – for some people, not everyone – can lead to a lot of problems for yourself, which I probably wouldn't want my daughter to have to deal with until she was a bit older," he said."I wish that I had not gone as hectic as I did on my face."
Painful Treatment
Concerned about the impact of his appearance on his future, Ethan has decided to undergo laser tattoo removal. "I've been getting laser [surgery], or have been, for pretty much 12 months… We do it in sections, but I've probably gone over the full thing six or seven times." He said. "I started getting it done because of the anxiety and stuff I was getting… Mental stuff is a funny thing to pin down, but I want to think that a lot of the anxiety was from just having a face full of tattoos."
Looking Toward the Future
Ethan's decision has sparked mixed reactions, but his over 125,000 Instagram followers have largely supported his numerous body modifications. Others have been captivated by his extreme transformations, viewing them as outlandish or even absurd. Through it all, Ethan has lived true to himself, fulfilling many personal desires. Now, with fatherhood reshaping his priorities, his daughter has become a new guiding force in his life, influencing his decisions and his outlook on the future.
