Chrissy Teigen and John Legend lost baby number three in October. Months later, Teigen opened up about her relationship with her body.
After severe complications, Teigen ended up in a hospital and eventually lost a baby named Jack. She shared the heartbreaking news and even photos from the hospital, hoping to break the stigma surrounding miscarriage.
The model posted a black and white photo with a caption:
“We are shocked and in the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain we’ve never felt before.”
Three weeks later, she wrote an essay for Medium, explaining why she decided to take her fans on this challenging journey.
Chrissy’s and John’s heartache
In her essay, a model and a chef begged people to be kind:
“I beg you to please share your stories and to please be kind to those pouring their hearts out.”
“Be kind in general, as some won’t pour them out at all.”
In November, Teigen described how the couple felt, offering a glimpse of hope. She described her last couple of months as “brutal, exhausting, sad, physically challenging, [and] mentally painful”, but confessed things were improving.
She wrote on Instagram:
“I already see the leaves as orange instead of grey, realized the sky is indeed blue and not black, and horn honks on my forced morning walks only bring me to my knees half the time.”
The wife of EGOT winner added:
“I can make it up my stairs only stopping once or twice instead of every other, and can get out of the bathtub all by myself as long as I have the promise John will dry me off.”
“The point is, “fuuuuuuuuuuuck, I think it’s happening.”
A few days ago, she posted a teary video to her Instagram, joking that she was using the “post-therapy face filter.”
Chrissy’s baby bump after the miscarriage
Teigen’s story continued when she posted a photo in a cut out dress.
She captured it:
“Even though I’m no longer pregnant, every glance in the mirror reminds me of what could have been. And I have no idea why I still have this bump, honestly. It’s frustrating.”
“But I’m proud of where this entire journey took my body and mind in other ways.”
The mom of two 4-year-old Luna and 2-year-old Miles added that she won’t get pregnant anymore, adding that she’s grateful she has her kids to watch them grow:
“I am lucky to have two amazing little ones who are transforming into big little people more and more every single day.”
While many vilified the couple for posting such intimate photos, ending the stigma around miscarriage is necessary.
Chrissy’s life’s an open book, and Legend seems to adore his wife’s honesty. If you don’t like it, you don’t have to look. But, we cannot avoid conversations surrounding miscarriages anymore.
