Yes, good news exists in 2020, and so does chocolate snow. Well, at least it does for the lucky people in one Swiss town, who got to experience the delicious phenomenon for the first time last week.
Residents of Olten, between Zurich and Basel, were in shock. The fine cocoa powder began snowing down around them as the local chocolate factory’s ventilation system malfunctioned.
The Lindt & Spruengli company confirmed the news, saying there was a minor defect in the cooling ventilation for a line of its roasted ‘cocoa nibs’ –fragments of crushed cocoa beans which form the basis of chocolate.
Thanks to strong winds, the cocoa powder immediately began to spread around the area of the factory on Friday morning. It left a fine cocoa dusting.
AP News reports that the company says only one car was lightly coated with the chocolate powder. Adding that it has offered to pay for any necessary cleaning.
Unsurprisingly, it hasn’t yet been taken up on the offer. Let’s be honest. If you’re lucky enough to have chocolate snow fall on you, would you ever pass up on the golden opportunity to eat as much of it as you possibly can?
Shortly after the sweet incident, production at the Lindt & Spruengli factory continued as normal. The company said the tiny particles were completely harmless to people and the environment.
Unfortunately for the residents of Olten, the ventilation system is now working properly. It’s unlikely for them to get any more chocolate snow in the near future.
But at least they got to witness a one of a kind tasty experience.
