Charlize Theron Shares Rare Photo Of Her Transgender Daughter
Published in May 2021 / Updated in Aug 2021
Despite her star power, Charlize Theron manages to protect her two daughters and only share snaps of them occasionally.
Naturally, people are curious since Charlize is A plus celebrity, and her daughter Jackson announcing she is transgender was a teachable moment for many parents.
The South African actress recently opened up about family life and showed some adorable photos on her Instagram.
Becoming Charlize Theron
Theron started becoming a superstar back in the 90s. Her roles in The Devil’s Advocate (1997), Mighty Joe Young (1998), and The Cider House Rules (1999) are still quite memorable.
She got an Oscar back in 2003 for her role of a serial killer in Monster, the first-ever for a South African actress.
Younger fans know her from Mad Max: Fury Road and Snow White & The Huntsman, but Charlize really did manage to be fantastic in every movie genre.
The super talented and gorgeous actress, however, faced many struggles before becoming a star. Even after becoming a Hollywood A-lister, she struggled. However, it seems that it only made her stronger.
Growing up in apartheid-era South Africa
The multitalented Charlize faced confusion as she was growing up during the apartheid era.
She spoke about her childhood, saying:
“It was only until I was 12 or 13 that I went to an art school in Johannesburg where I really got to witness firsthand absolutely the atrocities of apartheid.”
She continued in 2019 interview:
“I didn’t really truly understand what any of this really did to me as a young child until I was in my mid-30s, and I went to therapy for the first time because of a relationship that was failing.”
She discovered what growing up really meant:
“And what I discovered while in therapy, trying to save my relationship, was that I had a lot of trauma from being a young child growing up in South Africa during the apartheid era.”
She added that she understands her privilege:
“I benefited. My life was more comfortable because of the suffering of a lot of people who just by chance were born in the ‘wrong’ skin color.”
“That was a lot for me to carry; it still is. It’s something that I’ll carry for the rest of my life.”
Sexual Assault in Hollywood
Like many other beautiful, talented, and strong women, Charlize experienced the dark side of Hollywood.
Her attacker was an ultra-famous yet unnamed Hollywood director. Full disclosure: Charlize did name him, but the press did not want to reveal it.
“In sexual harassment, you’re always waiting for that moment where there’s full closure, where you feel like you’ve actually … had your moment, where you get to say your piece. And that never really happens.”
The Atomic Blonde actress continued:
“I’ve heard this repeatedly in hearing other women’s stories, and that is the unfortunate thing about sexual harassment. You never get that moment where you feel like the tables are reversed, and now he’s finally getting it.”
The important part was left out, and not by Charlize:
“I actually did disclose his name.”
“You don’t know that because every time I disclosed his name, the journalist made the decision to not write his name, and it goes to show just how deeply systemic this problem is.”
A childhood full of traumas
Charlize never tried to hide her past, and it is well documented that she grew up with an abusive and alcoholic father.
Speaking about him, she started by saying:
“My father was a very sick man.”
“My father was an alcoholic all my life. I only knew him one way, and that was as an alcoholic.”
Growing up with an alcoholic parent is always hard. But what happened to Charlize and her mother takes the abuse to a whole new level.
“It was a pretty hopeless situation. Our family was just kind of stuck in it.”
She still feels the consequences of her father’s actions:
“The day-to-day unpredictability of living with an addict is the thing that you sit with and have kind of embedded in your body for the rest of your life, more than just this one event of what happened one night.”
“I think our family was an incredibly unhealthy one. And all of it, I think, scarred us in a way.”
It is essential to speak up, as Charlize said:
“It’s unfortunately what happens when you don’t get to the root of these issues.”
She continued her story by stating:
“Of course, I wish what happened that night would have never happened.”
The night that changed everything
When Charlize was only 15, her mother had to kill her father. The future Hollywood star was there during that night:
“My father was so drunk that he shouldn’t have been able to walk when he came into the house with a gun.”
Her mom and young Charlize were petrified:
“My mom and I were in my bedroom leaning against the door because he was trying to push through the door.”
They were literally struggling to survive:
“Both of us were leaning against the door from the inside to have him not be able to push through.”
Her father started shooting, but luckily, he did not hurt Charlize or her mother:
“None of those bullets ever hit us, which is just a miracle.”
It was a struggle for survival, and Theron’s mom did what she had to:
“In self-defense, she ended the threat.”
Charlize knows her case is not isolated:
“This family violence, this kind of violence that happens within the family, is something that I share with a lot of people.”
She believes that it is important to talk about these issues, as they are part of everyday lives for many. Despite all that happened, Charlize managed to turn her luck around as an actress and producer, as well as a mom.
Charlize and her daughters
We rarely get to as something other than a global superstar. However, she did open up about her family life, and it showed the lesser-known side of Charlize.
We only saw her two baby girls together last year. Theron shared a series of pictures, each one cuter than the next.
The first one said:
“My heart belongs to these two beautiful powerhouses.”
She followed it with an adorable picture, and heartwarming caption:
“I will never be the same.”
This adorable picture looks like an advertisement. Charlize captioned it by writing:
Everyone loved the pictures, as the comments were full of love and praise for the three ladies:
Both celebrities and fans were thrilled:
They really are the perfect little family!
The actress is a supportive and loving mom, and as she explained, parents’ job is to love their kids:
“My job as a parent is to celebrate them and to love them, and make sure that they have everything they need in order to be what they want to be. And I will do everything in my power for my kids to have that right and to be protected within that.”
Charlize has a chance to give her daughters the childhood she never had. And that is worth everything.
