Caitlyn Jenner Announces Plans To Run For California Governor

caitlyn jenner announces plans to run for california governor

Former Olympic Gold medalist turned reality star Caitlyn Jenner presented her plan to run for California governor.

Caitlyn is a transgender activist and a Republican, and she intends to beat Democrat Gavin Newsom in recall elections.

Jenner Confirmed The News On Her Website

Caitlyn Jenner, 71, confirmed the rumors on her website, followed by social media announcements.

In a statement Jenner said:

"I am a proven winner and the only outsider who can put an end to Gavin Newsom's disastrous time as governor."

Here is her Instagram statement, that starts simply by saying: "I'm in!"

Though she doesn't have any political background, that should not be the problem. Many former actors and celebrities were or still are in the Office.

Among them are Ronald Regan, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and recently, Donald Trump.

Jenner openly supported Trump in the elections in 2016.

Caitlyn's Political Views Are Controversial

As a member and activist for the LGBTQ+ community, Jenner expressed plenty of controversial ideas. She did admit that her views have changed, stating economically she is "conservative, socially progressive."

She also told People magazine that she thinks "we need equality for all, regardless of who's in the White House."

California is almost exclusively the blue state. Yet, Jenner's opponents are all Republicans: businessman John Cox, former San Diego mayor Kevon Faulconer, and former US congressman Doug Ose.

This state loves their famous governors though, so Jenner might win this race. Previously, in 2003, Arnold Schwarzenegger beat adult movie star Mary Carey and former child actor Gary Coleman.

Jenner first mentioned she wants to go into politics in 2017, in an interview with BBC.
