To celebrate his 68th birthday, Bruce Willis was surrounded by his family, who shared footage of the festivities on social media on Sunday (19 March).

Ex-wife Demi Moore posted a video of the family singing "Happy Birthday" to the Hollywood icon on Instagram.

Willis beamed with delight as his family - wife Emma Heming Willis, 44, and daughters Rumer, 34, Scout, 31, and Tallulah, 29 - sang him "Happy Birthday" and cheered with a "hip hip hooray" chant while he blew out his candles.

Moore captioned the post of the moment: "Happy birthday, BW! So glad we could celebrate you today. Love you and love our family. Thank you to everyone for the love and warm wishes — we all feel them."

The Willis family recently disclosed that the actor had been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia (FTD), a condition that impairs the brain's frontal and temporal lobes, leading to personality changes, compulsive behavior, and speech difficulties. Unfortunately, there is currently no cure for FTD.

The Willis family released a joint statement on the website for The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration, penned by Bruce's wife Emma and ex-wife Demi along with their five daughters, which read:

"Our family wanted to start by expressing our deepest gratitude for the incredible outpouring of love, support, and wonderful stories we have all received since sharing Bruce's original diagnosis."

The family expressed the wish that making Willis' diagnosis public will help increase understanding.

"Since we announced Bruce's diagnosis of aphasia in spring 2022, Bruce's condition has progressed and we now have a more specific diagnosis: frontotemporal dementia (known as FTD)," the announcement continued.

"Unfortunately, challenges with communication are just one symptom of the disease Bruce faces. While this is painful, it is a relief to finally have a clear diagnosis."

The announcement was made approximately twelve months after the Unbreakable actor retired as a result of being diagnosed with aphasia.

Emma paid homage to her spouse on his special day with a heartfelt tribute.

She posted to Instagram to express her sorrow over the challenging circumstances of celebrating someone's birthday while they are dealing with dementia.

"He is pure love. He is so loved. And I'll be loving him always. Happy Birthday my sweet," she wrote.

"My birthday wish for Bruce is that you continue to keep him in your prayers and highest vibrations because his sensitive Pisces soul will feel it."

"Thank you so much for loving and caring for him too."
