Britney Spears Nude Photos Cause Ageism Debate After She's Labelled "Disturbing"

Britney Spears, 40, has been showing off her amazing body on Instagram for months. The most recent photos, which show Spears covering her breasts, sparked the discussions on ageism.

Britney was branded a sex symbol while she was still a teenager. Her iconic Rolling Stone cover shows a 17-year-old singer in nothing but underwear. While she was praised for her looks then, now, at 40, some think that her provocative photos are "disgusting."

Behind her sexy photos, Britney is trying to remind the world that she is a "free woman" after a conservatorship ended after 13 years, in November 2021, and she finally has her life in her own hands.

Vacation Photos That Started Disturbing Conversations

While in French Polynesia, Britney shared several mesmerizing snaps. She is not wearing much, and the caption on one of the images read:

"alrightyyy then, folks … showing my bod in French Polynesia as a rebel and free WOMAN !!!!! I WILL DO BIG LETTERS CAUSE I THINK THAT MEANS IT'S IMPORTANT, AND I DON'T WANT TO BE LEFT OUT."

Some praised her, writing, "it's Britney Beach!!" and "Live your life queen of the universe." Others were not as ecstatic about the singer's self-expressing, calling the posts "embarrassing" and "disgusting."

Last August, she shared several semi-nude images, and again, some people saw it as light, playful fun. The others were not as sweet. She captioned that bunch of photos:

"I bet you're wondering why I'd expose my body NOW … well, it's because I was born into this world naked, and I honestly feel like the weight of the [world] has been on my shoulders, and it's made me view myself that way."

She added she will not "do topless pics for the rest of my life" as it helps "when you need to be enlightened."

The simple fact that a self-made 40-year-old woman has to defend what she posts on Instagram is quite extraordinary since her photos are not harming or insulting anyone.

The Question Of Ageism

While people are still questioning why Britney poses in the nude, some Twitter users started more complex conversations.

As one person wrote, "she's lost her mind," they got a response from another commentator which perfectly sums up Britney's situation:

"She is allowed to do what she wants. Britney is 40! A grown-ass adult. Her posing naked doesn't mean she lost her mind."

How could it be okay to praise someone half-naked as a teenager but condemn them when posing in the same manner as adults?
