In a shocking twist, Britney Spears' father, Jaime Spears, decided to step down from conservatorship.
Britney, dubbed the modern Camille Claudel, is a step closer to freedom after 13 long years. While many are skeptical, fans of the pop superstar are pointing out that during those 13 years she performed, pretty much flawlessly and toured around the world.
During that time, her father gave himself $16,000 a month for maintaining her fortune.
Britney's lawyer, Mathew Rosengart, said:
'We are pleased that Mr. Spears and his lawyer have today conceded in a filing that he must be removed. It is vindication for Britney."
Jaime will assist with "an orderly transition to a new conservator," his lawyers stated.
The lawyers also added that Mr. Spears will always look out for his daughter's best interests and love her unconditionally.
The Breakdown Of The Controversial Conservatorship
Conservatorship applies when a person is not capable of handling finances or personal life. In the case of Britney Spears, it also included overseeing her visitation rights to her sons with Kevin Federline.
But, as Britney added, her father also dictated what to wear, when to tour and even deprived her of having more children.
She also wasn't allowed to take hair vitamins or drink coffee, let alone drive her car. Her words were backed by a former bodyguard, who claimed she is living "like an inmate in a golden prison as the singer has her phone calls monitored and is not allowed out unsupervised."
The explosive testimony on June 23 had the world talking.
Jamie asked for conservatorship in 2008, claiming that Britney was not capable of caring for herself. This didn't come as a shock since 2007 was undoubtedly one of the strangest years in Britney's life.
After her split from Kevin Federline, Britney shaved her head and attacked the paparazzi while in the custody battle.
The next 10 years were quiet. Britney's mental health issues were never made public, but until 2019, everything seemed to be okay.
As things started to crumble, the #FreeBritney movement started gaining more attention. Britney's Instagram became cryptic, and one thing was clear: Britney was in a cage, but no one had any idea that she was deprived of basic human rights.
Though her father was not handling Britney as a person in the past year and a half, he still made all decisions.

Before the shocking testimony, Framing Britney was the most talked-about documentary at the beginning of 2021.
In June, we learned that Britney is angry, and she wants her life back.
She was put on lithium against her will. Pleading to the court, Spears said:
"I have an I[U]D inside of myself right now so I don't get pregnant. I wanted to take the IUD out so I could start trying to have another baby, but this so-called team won't let me go to the doctor to take it out because they don't want me to have children, any more children."
She sounded terrified, claiming she felt no desire to live. Britney said she wanted to be heard, and this time, everyone was listening.
In 20 minutes, Spears described her life as slavery, as she was making money for everyone but had to ask for approval for anything.
This type of conservatorship is usually recommended for older people who have dementia. Britney's testimony raised eyebrows, and many famous and non-famous people joined the movement to free Britney.
Despite today's big win, this doesn't mean Britney is free to do whatever she pleases. Britney's next hearing will be on September 29.
Britney has taken steps towards making Jodi Montgomery her permanent conservator. Montgomery will have one job: to care about Britney's well-being. The rest is up to the court.
Spears wants to marry Sam Asghari, her boyfriend of five years, gain control over her uterus, her money, and continue seeing her children since she has 30 percent of custody.
She earned every penny. If she can make money for every person who worked with her in Vegas, the world should give her a chance to at least try to be a full-grown person.
