Caroline Knight is originally from Oxford, but in March 2020, she flew to Peru.

The teacher intended to spend her next ten days practicing yoga on the Hoja Nueva retreat, 70 miles from Puerto Maldonado. But little did Caroline know that she would meet the love of her life there.

A True Love Story

On her yoga retreat, the 33-year-old met local 19-year-old Rómulo.

Caroline explained the situation:

"He worked as the handyman and looked after the animals.
In the evenings, we'd all hang out together in a group, and Rómulo was always on the edge of the conversation."

"He was shy and whenever I said hello to him, his eyes would dart to the ground."

"But on the odd occasion I got Rómulo alone to chat, he came across as really nice and genuine. The feelings I had for him were intuitive rather than obvious."

The instant attraction was too obvious to be ignored.

Lockdown Time

Midway through her time at the retreat, the country announced a national lockdown and Caroline needed to return to Puerto Maldonado.

For starters, she had to assess her options. What bothered her the most was the uncertainty if she'd ever see Rómulo again.

But ten days into lockdown at a hostel, Caroline received a Facebook message that knocked her off her feet.

The 'L' Word

Ms. Knight recalled some of the beginnings of their love story:

"He'd borrowed a phone. We chatted for ages and then he said, 'I have something to tell you - I think I love you'."

Her heart skipped a beat, and she couldn't believe what she was experiencing at that time.

She described her feelings:

"Even though I'd only known him a matter of days, I felt the same. My head was telling me to hold back, though, and I replied, 'I think I love you, too'."

The enamored couple kept in touch over the following month, before Rómulo came to visit her.

Best Time Ever

Caroline claimed that it was the best week that happened to them.

They spent their quality couple time by the pool. In the evenings, they were going for walks or cooking for each other.

She added:

"It was the first time we'd slept together and all I'll say is we had a lot of fun."

We bet they did!

Decision That Mattered The Most

The time they spent together was precious.

For that matter, Caroline decided to postpone her return to the UK. And instead, she embarked on an entirely different life with Rómulo in the jungle.

She shared her thoughts:

"The mosquitoes and sand flies have driven me to distraction, we have to collect our water from a neighbor in 20-liter buckets, and the heat and physical labor are intense. But I feel safe and loved with Rómulo. "

Many people wondered whether the age gap could be a problem for their relationship.

Caroline claimed:

"There are 14 years between us, but I don't give it a second thought. 19-year-old guys back home are still basically children, but men grow up fast in the Amazon."

And she genuinely loves him for who he is.

Couple Doing Their Thing

Caroline explained how they got along well together. She even embraced him to join her in doing naked yoga when they could find a private space for it.

She added:

"Rómulo is eager to explore the world, and I can't wait to bring him home to the UK to meet my friends and family."

Looking forward, Caroline hopes to develop a business out of exporting cacao to the UK.
