Bradley Cooper will be directing Maestro, and this is the second project he will have directed since 2018's A Star Is Born. The Leonard Bernstein biopic will start in May.
In Maestro, Cooper will also play the role of Broadway composer Leonard Bernstein. Carey Mulligan will play the role of Bernstein's wife.
When speaking about the project, he said that Spielberg handed it to him because he usually has several projects on hold since he has plenty on his plate.
Steven Spielberg actually wanted him to star in the film, but that didn't happen because Cooper wished to direct the project. Cooper has been connected to the Bernstein biopic since 2018, after he was done with A Star Is Born.
Consequently, he will write, direct and star in Maestro, which will air on Netflix. It is expected that the film will help Netflix get another Oscar nomination.

His last project, A Star Is Born, proved that he could be taken seriously as a director, although it was a remake of a 1937 film by the same name. The film had been remade two times before, in 1954 and 1976.
The film managed to get eight Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture. The movie did not win in any of these categories, which is why many are hopeful that his next directorial project might get him some wins.
Cooper has already won four Academy Awards, and despite his directorial ventures, he is most recognized as an actor. He got nominations for his roles in American Sniper, American Hustle, and Silver Linings Playbook.
The actor/director is quite famous for being the voice of Rocket Racoon in Marvel Cinematic Universe, a role he will still have in Thor: Love and Thunder later this year. In 2023, he will be in the third installment of Guardians of the Galaxy.
Recently, Cooper was in Nightmare Alley by Guillermo del Toro. Maestro is expected to be in theaters and on Netflix in 2023.
