Barbra Streisand Makes George Floyd's Daughter Gianna A Disney Shareholder

Since the death of George Floyd, many celebrities have tried to ensure the financial security of his family. Actress and singer Barbra Streisand was one of the kind people to step in and help George's family, particularly his little daughter, Gianna.

Barbra Streisand purchased Disney stock for the six-year-old, and now Gianna, the youngest child of George Floyd, is a Disney shareholder.

The little girl posted on her official Instagram account, giving a big "thank-you" to Barbra for her kind gift.

The post on Gianna's Instagram account shows her with a big smile holding the certificate that details her Disney shares. Her post was captioned, "Thank You @barbrastreisand for my package, I am now a Disney Stockholder thanks to you."

While it's not very clear how many shares Barbra purchased for Gianna, the gift itself is genuine and generous. And while Disney has been hurt by the coronavirus pandemic, like many other corporations, it is expected to be back up on its feet within the coming year

People magazine reported CNN calculations that Disney shares do well in general, saying "an investment of $1,000 in Disney 10 years ago would be worth more than $4,600 as of February 2020 for a total return of around 370 percent."

So many other people wanted to help Gianna live the best life she could...

In fact, Texas Southern University in Houston offered the little girl a full scholarship if she attended the school.

In Albert H. Myres's words, the chair of the board of regents, "This Board is committed to education and understands that a college degree is one of many powerful steps toward a productive and successful life."

"We know that this gesture cannot take the place of her dad's loving presence, but we hope that it will contribute to easing her journey through life." he continued.

To take it even further, Kanye West opened a 529 college savings plan that will fully cover Gianna's tuition wherever she decides to go.

Kanye also revealed that he donated $2 million USD to funds that have been directed to support charities that help the families of Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and George Floyd.

Gianna's mother, Roxie Washington, has been very careful about how Gianna receives any of the media attention surrounding her father's death.

Roxie and Gianna were in an interview by Good Morning America in early June, during which she explained how much Floyd's daughter meant to him. "She cried and he heard her. They wiped her off and they gave her to him. I mean that was his baby. He wanted that moment though. He really really wanted that moment. He looked forward to that."

Roxie continued to say that George did everything he possibly could to take care of his precious daughter. "He just wanted her to have the best. We were struggling so he did what he had to do as a man and he had to come here [to Minneapolis] to work. And he said 'I'm going to come back and get y'all.' I mean, that was his baby. He loved his little girl."

She also revealed that he loved to play with Gianna...

"He would put her on his shoulders. She didn't have to play with nobody else because daddy was gonna play all day long. And they played. They had fun."

Roxie also explained to NBC News that the reason why Gianna didn't attend her father's memorial service is that she didn't want to go unless he was there.

"(Gianna) said, 'Well, is he going to be alive?' And I said, 'I told you your daddy is in heaven now,' and she said, 'If he's not alive, then I'm not going."
