A south Mississippi state congressman has been arrested for drunkenly assaulting his wife because she took too long to undress for sex.

Douglas McLeod, 58-years-old, announced his candidacy in 2011, claiming that his faith defines him.

He reported:

"My Presbyterian Faith and my wife's Catholic Faith unite our strong Christian family values."

But after his recent domestic assault, it leaves us wondering if those "family values" he decreed just a few years ago included punching his wife if she fails to undress for sex fast enough.

His fellow Republicans in the state are calling for Mr. McLeod's resignation if the allegations are true.

According to an official report from the police department, when the police arrived at Mr. McLeod's home in Lucedale, 150 miles southeast of the state capital Jackson, they found him intoxicated and with an alcoholic drink in his hand.

Deputies described Mr. McLeod as slurring his speech and walking in a "zigzag pattern."

During the investigation, deputies reported that the lawmaker had punched his wife on the face, causing her to nosebleed. They also found bloodstains in the couple's bedroom, both on the bed and the floor.

And when McLeod was informed that the police had been notified about his alleged domestic assaults, he responded: "Are you kidding me?"

Another woman was also found inside the house, together with Mr. McLeod's wife. They were both frightened by Mr. McLeod's drunkenness and reactions.

The other woman told the police that Mr. McLeod's wife rushed into her bedroom to hide with blood on her face.

The woman added that when she and Mr. McLeod's wife locked the door, McLeod started banging the door and threatening to "kill her [expletive] dog" if they refused to let him in.

McLeod was then taken to custody and charged for domestic violence.

He was later released after posting a bill of $1,000.

Democratic state Senator David Blount also demanded the congressman's resignation.

House Speaker, Philip Gunn, addressed McLeod's issue saying:

"I have attempted to contact Rep. McLeod to request his resignation, if, in fact, these allegations are true. These actions are unacceptable to anyone."
