With news of Amber Heard allegedly fabricating photos of herself with a black eye making rounds, what this judge did might seem like the expected reaction, but there is more to the story.
Heard tried presenting a photo of herself with a bloodied lip as evidence of her abuse claims against her ex-husband, Johnny Depp. The judge did not allow it.
According to TMZ, the judge is not letting the jury see the picture because it was not submitted in time for the trial. The photo did not show up in the discovery phase of the defamation case and was, therefore, ineligible to be introduced.
She had previously said in one of her testimonies:
"I was in one of these fights, I believe it's this one, in his downtown ECB, we call it, loft, and we're in the kitchen living room area, and he backhands me. And, you know, it was, you know, he wears a lot of rings. I remember kind of just feeling like my lip went into my teeth, and it got a little blood on the wall. Just that simple, a little bit of blood on the wall."
Heard claims that the picture showing her with a bloodied lip was taken after the incident. She is also seen holding on to a piece of paper, saying, "I shall return xxx." She alleged that Depp had dropped that paper after hitting her and leaving.
Even if it seems like proof of violence, it was tossed out since the picture does not support her alleged date.
Depp's lawyers claimed that the picture was from 2012, and metadata on the image showed it was taken in 2012. Heard had previously stated in the UK case that the tumult in her relationship with Depp started in 2013.
In defense, a statement from Heard's legal team about "compelling evidence" states:
"The panicked Depp's team is fighting tooth and nail to prevent compelling evidence and photos such as this from being introduced. They continue their losing strategy: distract the jury and demonize the defendant."
