Officially, it has been announced that Amber Heard will be reprising her role as Mera in the movie Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

Rumors in Hollywood suggested that the superhero sequel would cast a new actor for the role due to the highly-publicized defamation case between Heard and her ex-husband Johnny Depp.

Insiders and sources close to the production kept leaking suggestions that Mera would be replaced.

However, those rumors have been proven false.

Insider and The Direct reported that a trailer for the movie was presented at CinemaCon, which briefly showed Amber Heard reprising her role as the love interest of Aquaman.

Although Amber Heard doesn't have any lines in the trailer, she is briefly shown in two shots and also in battle.

The remainder of the trailer features Jason Momoa's character struggling to lead Atlantis, working with his on-screen step-brother Orm (played by Patrick Wilson), and dealing with zombies.

We also witness Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) attacking the surface world, establishing himself as the movie's antagonist.

It's still unknown how much screen time Heard will have in the final version of the film, but during the defamation trial, she stated that a significant amount of her role had been cut from the movie.

She earlier told the court: "I fought really hard to stay in the movie — they didn't want to include me in the film."

She added: "I was given a script. And then given new versions of the script that had taken away scenes that had action in it, that depicted my character and another character, without giving spoilers away, two characters fighting with one another."

"They basically took a bunch out of my role. They just removed a bunch."

Amidst the trial, a huge campaign was launched to remove Heard entirely from the movie.

A petition on Change.org garnered 4.6 million signatures as individuals were eager for the sequel to cast a new Mera.

Despite the pressure from fans, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom's producers announced that they would not react to the outcry and insisted that they would 'do what's best for the film'.

However, rumors started circulating in Hollywood that efforts were being made to cast another actress for the role.

Those rumors were quickly dismissed by a spokesperson for Heard as 'insane'.

They told Insider: "The rumor mill continues as it has from day one — inaccurate, insensitive, and slightly insane."

The release date for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom in theaters is set for November 20.
