Most local rescue organizations are always open to helping hands and they cherish times spent with each volunteer. They are always grateful when volunteers assist with adoption events, take dogs on walks, donate and help cleaning out kernels.
Dog trust formerly known as the National Canine Defense League (NCDL) was founded in 1891 and is the largest dog welfare charity in the United Kingdom that cares for over 15,000 dogs each year. It is best known for its slogan “A Dog is for Life, not just for Christmas.”
Dog Trust has a non-destruction policy and has a network of over 20 Rehoming centers all over the United Kingdom.
With the primary aim of protecting all dogs in the UK and its environs from maltreatment, cruelty, and suffering, Dog Trust Basildon encourages locals to care for its animals through donating blankets and sweaters to make puppies more comfortable. In regard to this, Dog Trust Basildon took to its Instagram page to celebrate an amazing 89-year-old British woman- Maisie Green in a post.
Over the years, Maisie Green has assisted in her own way by knitting puppies blankets and coats to help them stay warm during cold nights. According to her, she loves dogs and knitting so she combined them in a wonderful way such that there her love would be felt by each dog at the shelter.
Green says that knitting provides her with a purpose.
“It keeps me busy and often, I like to knit whilst watching television,” Green said.
“I am delighted to be helping the four-legged residents at the center in some way,” she added.
She also explained how long she spent on each item to Dog Trust saying that
“It takes me three days to knit a blanket and one day to knit a doggy coat.”
Apparently, with the help of her family members driving her to the shelter three times a year to drop off the knitted donations, Green has been doing the good deed for 3 years.
The dogs at the shelter love their knitted items and look adorable in them.
The Rehoming Center Manager at Dogs Trust Basildon also confirmed her donations and appreciated her by saying
“Maisie regularly brings along her knitted donations and we are so grateful for her support. With the chill of the winter months really starting to creep up on us, I know our dogs are very pleased to put the items to good use – and love feeling extra cozy!”
