According to Insider, Elon Musk, the wealthiest man in the world, allegedly paid $250,000 to settle sexual misconduct.
The alleged incident happened in 2016, and the settlement was reached in 2018.
The outrageous allegation claim that the Space X owner asked the flight attendant for a massage after revealing himself.
Since the flight attendant is under the non-disclosure agreement, the allegations brought to Insider came from her friend.
The friend told the publication that she "felt a responsibility to come forward."
Elon Musk called the allegations "utterly untrue," claiming it was a "hit piece" made to interfere with his Twitter acquisition.
Here is a breakdown of what had allegedly happened, per Insider.
An Alleged Sexual Massage
The friend told the Insider that Musk had asked the flight attendant for a full body massage as they were on a flight to London in 2016.
She agreed, and when she came to the cabin, Musk was "was completely naked except for a sheet covering the lower half of his body."
The allegations claim that Musk "exposed his genitals" and "touched her and offered to buy her a horse if she would 'do more,' referring to the performance of sex acts."
The friend said that she was not for sale.
The publication claims they know the identities of the flight attendant in question and her friend but will not reveal their names, citing safety.
The friend alleges that Musk tried to bribe the attendant for sexual favors.
The Flight Attendant Was Allegedly Upset
The friend stated that the flight attendant told her about the misconduct a few days later, adding she was pretty upset.
In a declaration to Insider, the friend said the alleged victim looked up to Musk before the incident. However, she was anxious after.
The flight attendant soon felt like not taking advantage of the alleged proposal affected her shifts. The declaration states she was being "punished for refusing to prostitute herself."
Additionally, the declaration reads that the flight attendant was encouraged to finish a masseuse course. The company allegedly claimed it would get her on more flights, and she would be able to give Musk proper massages.
The $250,000 Payment
In 2018, the flight attendant hired a lawyer in California, the declaration says. The alleged victim sent a letter to HR describing the incident.
A mediator settled the incident, and in November 2018, the flight attendant got a $250,000 payment in exchange for not suing over the claims, Insider writes.
The payment covered a non-disclosure agreement and non-disparagement clauses. This means that the flight attendant is not allowed to talk about Musk, Space X, or Tesla.
A Friend Says She Needed To Share What She Had Learned
The flight attendant's friend told Insider that staying silent would make her "complicit."
The friend consulted with the alleged victim's attorney before contacting Insider.
The lawyer told her that her client was not allowed to say anything about the matter but encouraged other potential victims to speak up.
Months after the alleged NDA was signed, California-based Space X and other companies would not be able to require similar contracts.
The former governor Jerry Brown signed the "Stand Against Non-Disclosure Act." It means that NDAs involving sexual harassment, discrimination, or assault can be broken.
The friend added that the alleged victim would come forward if she did not feel like she was putting herself at risk.
Musk Was Never Involved In A Sex Scandal
Four women who worked at SpaceX spoke out about sexual harassment, and at least six sued Tesla for alleged sexual abuse. However, Elon Musk was never mentioned, and this is the first allegation of this kind involving the Tesla and Space X CEO.
The alleged victim's friend asked others to come out, concluding she "I would like for the truth to be revealed."
This is a developing story.
