Jerry Windle was a single gay man, and he had one dream: to become a dad.

Though his chances were slim, he saw a story in a magazine that gave him information about adopting a child from Cambodia.

Today, that baby boy is on Team USA's diving team, and you know him from Tokyo Olympics. The child is Jordan Windle.

Life-changing News And Rushing To Cambodia

In 2000, Jerry was on the first flight to Phnom Penh, Cambodia, where his future son, whose parents died, was in an orphanage.

Young Jordan was suffering from malnutrition, scabies, and severe infections. Jerry took him to Florida, took the best care of him, and that's how he became his father.

Though small, the new family seemed to found their routine, despite Jordan's health issues and didn't know a word of English.

Jordan was only two years old and weighed 16 pounds. But, love and devotion won, and accidentally, when Jordan was 7, his career started to take off.

Becoming A Champion

Tim O'Brien, the son of a famous diving coach, Ron O'Brien, spotted 7-year-old Jordan and invited him to entered a special diving program. At that time, father and son met Olympic gold medalist and LGBT activist Greg Louganis.

It was not smooth sailing since it took Jordan three trials to qualify for the men's platform event.

Today, Jordan is part of the US team, but his heart is partly in Cambodia. He had a Cambodian flag tattooed and was a proud American father.

The relationship with his dad only grew stronger over the years.

In 2011, the unstoppable duo released a book, An Orphan No More: The True Story of a Boy, And the captivating story of a rooster who other animals told that he couldn't be a father without a hen captured the hearts of many.

The book's highlight is "where there is love. There is family."

Not only that this single gay dad raised a champion, but he also raised a wholesome human being. At 16, Jordan went to Cambodia to participate in an event and inspire younger generations to dream big.
