A 'Nap Desk' Is Exactly What You Need To Be More Productive At Work

Forget that afternoon coffee and take a nap instead!

If you often stay up at night or gets up early in the morning, you defiantly know a cup of coffee is all you need to fight drowsiness.

Coffee is better taken in the morning hours, but it's advisable to ditch it in the afternoons. Taking coffee past the mid-morning can make you tense, restless, jittery, and disrupt your sleep patterns.

What can replace coffee? We have to stay awake and alert at the office.

If you're struggling to stay alert at the office, a little snooze is all you need. Short naps during the day can boost your mental alertness, better than long bouts of sleep can.

A 2015 study reveals that naps strengthen your immune system by reversing the effects of sleep deprivation. They also don't have any side-effects, are highly refreshing, and won't even interfere with your night sleep.

Despite this, it's still essential to try getting at least 8 hours of sleep every night.

Nature Neuroscience published a study in which researchers tested subjects on their perceptual performance four times daily.

In the study, researchers concluded that performance deteriorated with each test. Participants who took a 30-minute nap between tests had an improvement in their performances, while those who took a 60-minute nap even reversed it.

Sara Mednick, a co-author of the study and associate professor of psychology at the University of California, also explained that "naps offer the same benefits as full nights of sleep if they had a specific quality of nap, and different types of naps offer specific benefits."

Unfortunately, the office isn't designed to suit nap-time activities. Taking a little nap in your chair with your head on the desk is downright uncomfortable.

Thankfully, a Greek designer, Nancy Leivaditou, of Studio NL, has come up with an ingenious solution- a multipurpose desk that can morph into a bed on activation.

The desk is 2 meters long and 0.8 meters wide and is called 1.6 S.M. of Life Desk. It has a built-in T.V if you need a non-sleep break and isn't only for office use. You can also use it in your home space.

How is it converted?

The upper layer is made of a sturdy piece of lacquered wood, and there's a mattress hinged up on one side.

The two sides that accommodate the head and feet are plywood boarded and can be reclined as desired.

You only need to slide the top board backward from the sitting position, and then push back the mattress, and you're ready for a nap!

Word of advice: Always set your alarm before turning it on. This bed can get too comfortable at times that you might end up sleeping longer than planned.
