We've all experienced difficult times at one point in our lives. Maybe even had to depend on someone else to get by.
However, some people may think this is lazy or 'being part of the problem.'
Though that might be true, there are times when we don't know the circumstance in their life.
So we end up inappropriately passing judgment on people without truly knowing the full story.
For example, this man learned a lesson that'd stick with him for life after wrongfully snapping at a woman using food stamps at a grocery store.
A woman shared:
"At a grocery store, a man standing behind me in the long line snorted, 'some people!' (insinuating the young girl ahead of us in line was slowing the process down)."
"You would think the manager of this store would pay attention and open another line."
"I looked to the front of the line to see what the holdup was and saw a very clean and nice-looking young woman trying to get the machine to accept her credit card."
"No matter how many times she swiped it, the machine kept rejecting it."
"And an annoyed man standing behind me said, 'It's one of them welfare card things. Dang, people need to get a job like everyone else.'"
The young woman then turned around to see who had made the 'ugly comment.'
And the rude man said, 'It was me,' pointing to himself.
The woman continued:
"The young lady's face began to change expression. From very red to almost in tears."
"She then dropped the welfare card onto the counter, left the groceries, and quickly walked out of the [store]."
Everyone in the checkout line watched as the woman ran to her car. She then got in and drove away.
Moments later, a young man (who knew the young woman) walked into the store and went to the cashier. He asked if he had seen the woman.
After describing her, the cashier told him that she had run out of the store.
The man asked, 'why would she do that?'
Then, the man who was rude to the young woman earlier responded:
"I made a stupid comment about the welfare card she was using. Something I shouldn't have said. I'm truly sorry."
The young man said:
"Well, that's bad, real bad, in fact."
"Her brother was killed in Afghanistan two years ago. He had three young children, and she has taken on that responsibility."
"She's twenty-years-old, single, and now has three children to support."
After hearing this, the man regretfully apologized for snapping at the young woman.
He then pulled out his credit card and told the clerk to pay for the young woman's groceries.
The man also loaded his own groceries to be included, paying a total of $1,646.57 bill.
He then wrote a check and handed it to the young man, saying:
"She will need a freezer and a few other things as well."
