A Chinese Woman Who Sold 20 Iphone 7 Bought By Her 20 Boyfriends To Buy Her Dream House At A Countryside

There is this popular adage that says ‘Necessity is the mother of invention’. Well, I never really understood this adage until I heard about a life application where a Chinese woman bought a house by selling 20 Iphones bought by her 20 boyfriends- I know you are shocked but yes, T-w-e-n-t-y boyfriends. Some girls are struggling to have 1 boyfriend but a girl has 20 at her service.

Most people plan for the future but who would have thought of using this means to attain property in China, especially when the price of properties is always increasing. This particular property story went viral on the popular Chinese micro-blogging site ‘Weibo’ where the hashtag ‘20 mobiles for a house’ was used over 13 million times which trended for weeks. As at that time, it became China’s top trend and the story behind it is still unique and unbelievable.

This story was posted on the popular Chinese social media forum ‘Tian Ya Yi Du’ by a user with the name ‘Proud Qiaoba’ after her friend ‘Xiaoli’ showed her and their friends her newly-bought house and revealed how she was able to get the money. The user ‘Proud Qiaoba’ posted that her friend, Xiaoli, asked her 20 boyfriends to buy her the newly launched iPhone 7 on September 16th, 2016.

Xiaoli who is from Shenzhen in Southern China sold the 20 iPhones to a mobile phone recycling site called Hui Shou Bao for 120,000 Chinese Yuan which is approximately $17,143 and then used the money to fulfill her dream of buying a house in the countryside.

According to some people who knew her, they explained that Xiaoli was not from a wealthy family and she was the eldest daughter, which automatically placed responsibilities on her. Her father was a migrant worker and her mother was a full-time housewife. Maybe her parents were pressurizing her to buy a house for them since they were getting old, but it was still unbelievable that she used this method.

A lot of people thought it was just a made-up story used as a marketing ploy by the phone recycling company- Hui Shun Bao but they were later convinced that the story was true after BBC trending visited the phone recycling company and the company spokesman confirmed that they bought 20 iPhone 7’s from a female client at the beginning of October and she was paid approximately 6000 Chinese Yuan (approximately $857) for each one.

BBC trending requested an interview via email with Xiaoli through the company for more proof but it was rejected saying that ‘her day-to-day life has been affected from the local media attention and she doesn’t want the media to continue covering the story’

Although, some people commended her for her act, admired her guts and resourcefulness but others however perceived her actions as immoral and also called her “the most shameless person”.

Her action was really unique but I really wonder what her 20 boyfriends would say about this when they got to know they had 19 other rivals.
