5-Pairs of Movie Co-stars Who Never Got Along in Real Life

Co-leading movie stars work together for months, even years in extremely tight quarters on a weekly basis.

Oftentimes, some of them become intimately close, but these ties become rocky when the cameras stop recording. Personality bashing, catfights, and violent outbursts are some of the outcomes witnessed from co-star, feuds kept a secret from the public.

Here are 5 pairs of your darling co-stars who did not get along off-screen.

Julia Roberts and Nick Nolte

The chemistry between Julia Roberts and Nick was so bad in real life. This affected their on-screen attractiveness making the film a hard sell. The allure was just not visible.

According to the Los Angeles Times, their sources claimed that the two quarreled constantly. The piece highlighted that Roberts couldn’t stand Nolte’s masculinity to the point where she derided and insulted her co-star.

Nick on the other hand became so aggravated by her attitude that he would intentionally do things that would irritate her more. Some people on set claimed that the acrimony between these two was so intense.

In fact, the two had more fun with substitutes than each other. In an interview with the New York Times, Julia stated that “While he can be completely charming and very nice, he’s also completely disgusting. He’s going to hate me for saying this, but he seems to go out of his way to repel people.”

Nolte allegedly responded, saying, “It’s not nice to refer to someone as ‘disgusting.’ But she’s not a nice person. Everyone knows that.”

Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall

The hostility between the two Sex and the City co-leading stars was well-publicized.

The altercation seems to have stemmed when Kim was accused of causing the show’s third movie not to happen. Kim Cattrall went on to her twitter icon and wrote that the only demand she made was that she did not want to do the 3rd film.

Kim later said that the reports about the negotiations had delayed another upcoming movie and accused the cast and crew of Sex and the City, specifically Sarah Jessica Parker, of not being nice.

Parker later responded on Watch What Happens Live saying “I found it very upsetting. That’s not the way I recall our experience. So it’s sad.”

Things flared up when Sarah publicly conveyed her condolences for the death of Kim’s brother. Cattrall harshly denounced her former co-star on Instagram, ending her caption by saying, “Let me make this VERY clear, (If I haven’t already), You are not my family. You are not my friend,” she went on to add, “I’m writing to tell you one last time to stop exploiting our tragedy in order to restore your ‘nice girl’ persona.”

Janet Hubert and Will Smith

Janet Hubert and his on-screen nephew, Will Smith in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, engaged in a heated feud that led Hubert to exit the show. The dispute was public knowledge and became very controversial.

Hubert was so furious. She went forth to call The Fresh Prince lead actor, Will Smith, an a-hole. He promised never to do a reunion with the cast of the show. In response to her leaving the show, Smith said, “We’re just gonna replace her and act as nothing happened.”

Later, Hubert replied to this saying, “Well, honey, that is not what happened, is it? The world has let me know that my place on that show was very, very loved … I felt demonized and beaten up and crucified for many years; no one came forward in my defense.”

In 2017, Ribeiro Alfonso shared a reunion picture for the cast. Twenty-three years later, Hubert proved that the bad blood is still there. She went on to her Facebook icon and wrote, “I have no interest in seeing any of these people on that kind of level. He was always the a– wipe for Will. There will never be a true reunion.”

Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze

The story of these two remains one of the absolute love stories in film history. However, there was tension in their off-screen life. In his memoir, The Time of My Life, Patrick wrote that Jeniffer Grey was overly sensitive. This was especially after a long day of shooting and would sometimes burst out crying when scrutinized.

Swayze claims that they had a bit of tension when off-camera. The actor also claimed that Jeniffer made them go over scenes repeatedly when she’d start laughing in the midst of filming.

Nonetheless, things did not remain bitter between the two for long. When interviewed, Swayze acknowledged Grey’s hard work and declared that she did a truly phenomenal job in the film.

Rachael McAdams and Ryan Gosling

While Noah and Allie were arguing and reconciling in their dazzling romantic film, The Notebook, off-screen the co-stars were just constantly arguing.

According to the film’s director, Nick Cassavetes, the two were not really getting along one day on set. The grudge between the two co-stars was quite fiery that Gosling even asked Cassavetes to replace Rachael McAdams.

Nick revealed that the two were struggling to get along the first day they met on the set. “Ryan came to me, and 150 people are standing in this big scene, and he says, ‘Nick come here,’ And he’s doing a scene with Rachel and he says, ‘Would you take her out of here and bring in another actress to read off camera with me?’ I said, ‘What?’ He says, ‘I can’t. I can’t do it with her. I’m just not getting anything from this.”

The director later added, “We went into a room with a producer; they started screaming and yelling at each other. I walked out. At that point, I was smoking cigarettes. I smoked a cigarette, and everybody came out like, ‘All right, let’s do this.”

The chemistry between some of your favorite co-stars on movies and TV shows is not always the way it seems off-screen. It does not matter how admirable their chemistry is on-screen. This does not portend that their charm clicks in their actual executive lifestyle.
