Since the dawn of men, weird fashion trends have been around to make us smile. This one brings us back to our primate ancestors…
An Eye-Catching Trend
The monkey tail beard first appeared on the Internet around 2012. It later showed up again through the years, and now it is back in all its glory.
Also known as cattail beard, one can see it in plenty of different variations, all equally bizarre. Pink, striped, or natural, from sporty guys to sophisticated men, no one seems immune to the curiosity to try it.
To make your own, you just have to shave leaving a stripe of beard that goes down the sideburn and along the jawline. It then goes around your chin and curls at your mouth, ending in a mustache that swirls to the other side.
Lockdown Made Me Do It
Maybe because of the utter boredom of life in 2020, more and more pictures of wild-looking beards have blessed the Internet lately. Who did not pick up a new hobby during the lockdown, after all?
With everything going on, our views on physical appearance went through a shift. As we do not quite know when we can be back at the office, we might as well get a monkey tail on our faces.
From Baseball Fields To Twitter
Among all this wilderness, one of the most shared monkey tail beards belongs to Mike Fiers. The pitcher of Oakland Athletics rocked it on the diamond in fall 2019 and Twitter fell in love with him.
It became such a success, the team took the chance to bring us all some joy once again. That is why in summer 2020 they released face masks with Fiers' beard on them.
Whether one would wear it or not, Internet memes have been a lifeline in the past few months and we treasure them dearly. While we wait for the next wild thing, let's enjoy some silly grooming, shall we?
It does not matter whether you would wear it proudly or you like to laugh at silly strangers on the Internet: getting a healthy chuckle these days is gold anyway.
