When you are a Hollywood actress, you have to defend your reputation like your life depends on it because, to a large extent, it does. Your public reputation determines how the world sees you and also plays a role in the kind of work you get if any.

That is why a celebrity with a bad reputation is often a celebrity with a struggling career. With that in mind, more than 10 actresses have the damaging reputation of being difficult to work with.

1. Megan Fox

Megan Fox is apparently no fun to work with. Allegedly, she is a total drama queen on sets, and trashing those she is working with does not help improve this image.

For instance, she made parallels between Transformers director Michael Bay and Hitler.

Using such words to describe high-profile film directors is a great way to get blacklisted by Hollywood. She also said that the movie was "not a movie about acting."

Eventually, she was fired from Transformers: Dark of the Moon, although some claim she left the role willingly.

More proof that she has a problem working with others emerged when a Transformers: Dark of the Moon screenwriter, Ehren Kruger, claimed that she did not appear passionate about the movies.

Legendary director Steven Spielberg and a couple of other actors have also had plenty of terrible things to say about working with Megan Fox, who has been described as "Ms. Sourpants."

2.Terri Hatcher

Nothing says you are difficult to work with than being labeled the "meanest woman in the world" by your costar. Film sets can get intense and stressful, and it does not help when you are part of the problem.

However, this former Desperate Housewives got this reputation for her behavior. Eva Longoria claimed that she dreaded the days she had to work with Terri Hatcher.

That probably explains why you don't see her as much these days.

3. Gwyneth Paltrow

Gwyneth Paltrow has a reputation of being a diva, which is why many people in Hollywood would not even dare work with her. She has a reputation for offending everyone.

As if that was not bad enough, she excused her behavior by saying that her privilege to behave in this manner has everything to do with the fact that she comes from a famous family.

To most people, Gwyneth lives in her own little bubble and seems to act the way she wants, which makes her incredibly difficult to work with.

4. Julia Roberts

To many people, Julia Roberts is the Hollywood sweetheart who gave us the all-time classic, Pretty Woman. However, beneath that charming demeanor is a woman who is also quite difficult to get along with.

Steven Spielberg was quite upset with her while they were working on Hook. She was habitually late to the set and had no apologies to make for her tardiness.

The famous director went on to say that the two would never work together ever again.

However, it was not just Spielberg who can attest to her bad side. Her cast and crew ended up giving her the nickname "Tinkerhell."

5. Mariah Carey

Few singers in this world will ever be as successful as Mariah Carey. Her fame as a musician led her to land a couple of film roles, but this seems to have done her reputation more bad than good.

She has previously been labeled a diva, which seemed understandable considering how incredibly successful she has been as a singer.

Apparently, while working on The House, she once arrived at the film set four hours late. She also had a long list of difficult demands, including white roses.

In combination with having a fairly popular reputation as a bad actress, such behavior has made her less appealing.

6. Shannen Doherty

Shannen was described by her Beverly Hills 90210 co-star, Jason Priestly, as someone who did not "give a [expletive]."

Another co-star, Jennie Garth, said she had a love-hate relationship with Shannen and that there were times they wanted "to claw each other's eyes out."

Apparently, she was also "unapproachable" while on set.

Priestly claimed that while everyone else on set was friendly, she was aloof.

7. January Jones

Shockingly, 11-year-old Jared Gilmore, the actor who was Jones' son on Mad Men, is the person who told the world that January Jones was difficult to work with.

In other reports, she has been described as having an "icy" demeanor that ultimately doomed her career on the famous show. Other Hollywood co-stars have described her as difficult to work with, including Zach Galifianakis, who described her as "rude."

8. Lea Michele

Recently, it has been revealed that Lea Michele is a real diva after her co-star, Samantha Maria, posted a tweet saying that she made her first television gig "a living hell."

Eventually, more stars came out to confirm these allegations.

in another incident, Dabier Snell revealed that he was not allowed to sit with other cast members by Lea Michele because he "didn't belong there."

9. Sharon Stone

Famous as she is as a popular action star, Sharon Stone also has the reputation of being a terrible costar.

For instance, she sued the Basic Instinct franchise for $100 million when they didn't pay her $14 million. It did not matter to her if the movie was made or not.

When she spoke about her reputation as a difficult actress, she argued that she asked for what she felt was appropriate.

However, she went on to lament that this ended up hurting her and her standing with "colleagues in the business."

10. Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay Lohan's life has been full of drama, both personally and professionally. Although she demonstrated a lot of potential with movies like Mean Girls, she eventually went off the rails and ruined her reputation in the industry with her outrageous behavior.

For instance, while working on The Canyons, she regularly canceled appointments. Her producer in Liz & Dick said that working with Lohan was "not for the faint of heart."

11. Katherine Heigl

The reputation of being difficult to work with has been Heigl's bane. Things started going south after she turned down an Emmy consideration for her role in Grey's Anatomy.

Apparently, she didn't like the writing.

That was not the last time she criticized a production she had appeared in. Later, she claimed that Knocked Up was "a little sexist."

Being part of something and then having a negative opinion about it obviously makes you something of a pariah, and Katherine Heigl did just that.

Jeffiner Lopez has had a fairly disappointing career as an actress, thanks in part to being a full-time diva on set. For instance, she described her co-star, Cameron Diaz, as a fortunate model who was given all the chances she could get.

She is often condescending and usually refuses to talk to people she considers to be "lower class." She often has this elitist behavior even towards other actors.

Although Jen is a very successful actress, she is apparently not easy to work with. In general, she does not like to interact with other stars and often prefers to eat alone.

She also demands that her trailer be far from the lot.

Jennifer also once threw a chair at her director for being disrespectful to a PA. The irony demonstrates the challenges of working with her on set.

In case you didn't notice, Madonna rarely appears in movies these days. That's not a coincidence; the popular singer is tough to work with.

For instance, while on the set of Body of Evidence, she completely refused to talk to Julianne Moore.

15. Evan Rachel Wood

In 2014, Evan Rachel Wood ended up in court answering to a $30 million lawsuit for her failure to return to the set of 10 Things I Hate About Life.

Eventually, production had to stop, after which she demanded "morning money."

16. Cybill Shepherd

Although some attribute this to her mental health issues, Paz de la Huerta has been described as a difficult actress.

For instance, when she was in Boardwalk Empire, she would often show up high. On such occasions, she could not work, which disrupted production.

Since she proved to the world that she was a difficult actress in The O.C., Mischa Barton has not been very successful at getting steady work. Part of the problem is that she struggled with substance abuse and mental health issues.

While on The O.C., she complained about the workload.

Anna Hathaway is quite demanding on set. For instance, while shooting a commercial in Japan, she apparently sent her breakfast back to the kitchen four times.

Also, while shooting Serenity, she stopped production until the crew could find an outlet for her Nespresso machine.

Although Angelina Jolie is arguably one of the most famous Hollywood stars in the world today, she is not always easy to get along with. For instance, during the making of Mr. & Mrs. Smith, she differed with Doug Liman, the director, almost every day.

Apparently, in the middle of the scene, she would start offering her own direction. She also liked to challenge and disagree with him openly.

21. Naomi Campbell

Naomi Campbell was already famous as a diva who would often get violent at the slightest provocation. That extended from modeling to the acting world.

At one point, she faced assault charges for throwing a phone at her maid.

With such a back story, it is not surprising that many people are not very eager to work with her on films.

22. Ashlee Simpson

Ashlee Simpson was so difficult to work with that she was fired from Melrose Place. Her colleagues didn't like her very much, and she often showed up late.

The fact that her talent has been called into question has not helped her reputation. According to many, she is a former pop star with no acting talent.

Samantha was so bad as a co-star that she managed to get her director on River Queen, Vincent Ward fired. However, he was later rehired.

Surprisingly, he admitted that she was a talented actress and explained that she had lived a tough life.

Nonetheless, she was so difficult on set that she made "grown men cry." Obviously, few people want to work with such ruthless bullies, so many other Hollywood stars would not like to be in the same set with her.

Sean was such a nuisance during the filming of Wall Street that she had to be fired. She constantly bothered the director about changing characters, and when Oliver Stone couldn't take it anymore, he had to fire her.

25. Shenae Grimes

According to AnnaLynne McCord, Shenae is egotistical, and her meanness made life miserable for her costars on movie sets.

Apparently, Shenae was "tormenting everyone on set" and acted rudely to the cast, and crew.

So, although you might think of some of these actresses as really nice and talented people who might be a lot of fun to hang out with, there are people out there who would rather work with someone else after meeting them.
