1-Year-Old Dies As Bullet From Street Shootout Breaks Window, Pierces Two Walls And Hits His Head Carl Fomby Published in Sep 2020 / Updated in Sep 2021 A one-year-old boy died after a bullet from crossfire entered his home and hit his head while sleeping. Zykier Young died after an errant bullet from a street shootout burst through a window, then two walls before hitting him in the head. At the time, young was sound asleep inside their home in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In a report, Pittsburgh police Chief Scott Schubert said: “Zykier Young should not be dead.”“My heart breaks for the family. I can’t even imagine what they’re going through with the loss of their child. It’s senseless.” Officers had responded to several 911 calls about multiple shots at the Rhine Place in the Spring Hill community. After they arrived, officers were pointed toward the residence where they found the injured child. As a sergeant drove the toddler to the hospital, two officers held the baby in the backseat while trying to control the bleeding. On arriving at the hospital, the baby was in critical condition. Later, doctors pronounced him dead. Following the incident, the family’s spokesperson said in a statement: “The family of Zykier Young appreciates the outpouring of support from the community. Words cannot explain our grief at this moment.” Chief Scott Schuber sympathized with the family’s loss. He also said his heart goes out to the officers who responded to the terrible shooting. Chief Schuber said: “This is something they’re going to have to live with the rest of their life with what they experienced.”“And we’re going to make sure we get them the help that they need to deal with that.” A GoFundMe page has been set up for donations to help the family. Neither the family nor the child was the target in the shooting, according to Commander Victor Joseph. Police have obtained surveillance footage of the shooting and ballistic evidence from the scene. And they have a description of at least one possible suspect. However, the police commander declined to give more information since it’s a ‘very active investigation.’ He said: “[Young’s death] really tugs on the emotional heartstrings of everybody, and if people can’t rally around and support this investigation and give information here — this is a baby.”“This is an innocent, innocent baby.”“There were numerous witnesses out there … so we need their help.” After investigation, the police noted there had been 10 shootings, five of which had been fatal in the past seven days. They didn’t have any evidence these shootings linked to each other.
